My local council only collect news paper every 2 weeks. We have asked for re-cycling bins or bags to separate the rubbish we throw out,but have been told its too expensive and we would have to buy our own bins or bags.
I live in a rural area and have to travel 3 miles to the re-cycle skips, how well does your council treat global warming?

I live in South Yorkshire and I think in my area they are trying to help us all go green.

I have a black box that we can put newspapers ,glass, clothes ,tins and foil in and it's emptied every week.
Also we have a green bin that we can place garden rubbish in as well as thin cardboard. That bin gets emptied every fortnight.

I would like to be able to recycle plastic but they is no collection for that in my area yet unless I take it myself to the nearest bottle bank .Unfortunately I don't drive so it's not a option for me as it's too far away for me to walk to.

Some councils I have noticed are trying to tackle this problem but others don't seem to have any recycling plans in motion. We all need to do our bit to help the environment but I feel the council should and could be doing so much more to enable us to recycle.

I have to separate all my rubbish. I have a bin for packaging which cover all things like tins, plastic and cartons anything that can be recycled. We have a big yellow bin for this that is emptied once a month. I have a small black bin for other household rubbish emptied once a week. We get a paper/ cardboard collection once a month and a garden waste collection once a fortnight. I also have to remove anything that can be classed as dangerous, like bleach containers and toilet block holders these are collected 3 times a year by a special poison waggon . There are glass recylce bins on almost every street corner. Where do I live to get this service? Germany, they recycle almost 50 percent of their rubbish.

It took some getting used to when we first came here, even though I did do some recycling in UK. Now it's almost second nature and nice to feel we are really contributing to the environment

Write to your MP. I do this on a regular basis on a wide range of environmental issues - I think that Councils could do a lot more to recycle and help us to recycle. If you make things easy people will adopt new patterns of behaviour. Instead it looks liek thet're heading for the financial incentive route - recycle or it'll cost you.

I don't know the full background as to how they've formulated that policy but it would be nice to see how these types of decisions are reached - to see if they make sense or whether there is some vested interest at work.

we have black plastic box for tins glass and blue bag for paper they are collected every two weeks then green wheelie bin for gardeing waste and cardboard.this is taken every two weeks.we have landfill collected every week.they are talking about free collection for recycled stuff pay as you throw for landfill.also we can go twice a year on special day given in local paper to fill two big bags with soil made from the green bin scheme.the soil is free.we can give xmas cards in at local supermarket to recycle.clothes can be recycled in a bag that can go in black box i think its salvation army that takes that.all our supermrkets have recycling skips as do the local council dump and they are staffed by people who have paid for sorting the rubbish to recylce them selves to make a wage instead of it going into land fill.they pay about £20 grand a year
