The short answer is YES. They want the USA to be a dumping ground for their problems....especially Mexico who has millions here.
WASHINGTON - President-elect Felipe Calderón, on U.S. soil Wednesday, called for "sensitive solutions" to the binational migration challenge and a new relationship between the United States and Mexico.
"I didn´t come to the United States to ask this great country to fix our problems," Calderón said as he kicked off a two-day visit that will include a meeting with U.S. President George Bush in the Oval Office on Thursday. "I came to establish the terms of a new collaborative relationship that will allow us to confront and resolve together the problems we have in common."
"I came to establish the terms???? you have got to be kidding me. Who does this guy think he is? He is going to dictate terms?
Where is our leaderships huevos? Here are some terms for you buddy get your a*s back across the border and take your people with you. Put your army on the border to stop all the illegals from crossing over and stop the drug runners or we will cut off all aid...hiow about that... Instead our spineless government bends over and continues to let Mexico F*** us in the A**

Hi,
perhaps, as Ireland has provided around 20% of the immigrants to the USA (according to Bill Clinton's figures) and Mexico legally or illegally has provided a considerable number of people to your cultural mix, they have a right?
Perhaps more to the point is why your government sponsors annually a lottery whereby 50,000 'Green Card' applicants can be given the right to live and work in the USA, yet citizens of the UK are PROHIBITED!
O.K. if you are from an ex-enemy country from eastern Europe.
O.K. if you are from almost any African Country, even from the middle east, but from the UK...go away!
I have travelled through the USA (sometimes overstaying a little) many times, yet despite having family there I am prohibited from even applying for this dubious 'Green card' lottery.
Talk about catch 22...you need a job before you can apply for a green card (lotteries apart) but you cannot get a job until you have the card!
I think every country has strange and nonsensical rules which have as much relationship to commonsense as does the existance of stores 'Open 365 days per year, 24 hours a day' yet which have locks on the doors!
Viva Ireland!

Ireland is a little different because they only HAVE 40,000 people here and we have 5,000 illegally there, and that is a much smaller net number. I am sure people will say I am racist about this, but the HMONG asylum seekers were given an ok by Bush last month and I saw not a ripple on this board. They are probably about 100,000. It is when you are talking about MILLIONS and huge impacts on our schools that it becomes such an issue. In 1986 we gave amnesty to MILLIONS and we would hardly have done that if we were racist. The impacts, with family reuinification rights, and with people illegally bringing in more family once they were legal, were huge, however.
I don't blame Ireland or Mexico for lobbying us, they have everything to win from that. I blame our own government for not addressing this problem from the point of view of ITS citizens as well as Mexico and Ireland are doing for their own.

To Bob Crane - the diversity lottery is because some have so many immigrants here others felt they had no chance (less ability for family connections to bring them in etc) so it was divised to bring in some where there would be less of a chance because their prior immigration levels here are low. Our friends have a number of people here already, and don't qualify. Interestingly, Northern Ireland DOES qualify for the lottery.

The Mexicans have a stricter immigration law than the US. Any cop can ask anyone for no reason to show proof of citizenship or being there legally. Also, illegal immigrants in mexico cannot get free healthcare at a hospital or a free education, as they can here in the US. They are arrested and deported immediately

Yes, I agree with you about the US being the dumping ground. Who do you think is coming across the border illegally? The homeless undesirable hispanics that Mexico doesn't want to have to deal with, so they help them to cross the border into the US...yes, I said this correctly..the Mexican government gives pamphlets out to people on how to cross the border illegally.
Go figure, I am very much a Democrat who is fed up with the illegal aliens!

people have been coming to America since before it was a country. it was originally intended as a "dumping ground" for all the convicts from Britain. no joke. there was a period of maybe 75 years where America was mostly British and natives, and then people started emigrating. from Russia, people came because of the brutalities forced on the Jews (1800's) the political unrest in Germany, the potato famine in Ireland, and more from Britain because of bad factory jobs. all these happened during or around the industrial age. but people have always been emigrating to America. that is the beauty of our country. we come from a variety of backgrounds, all together, right here. people didn't like it then, they said their jobs were being taken away, etc. etc. but now everyone and his brother are Irish. we need to accept immigration as the natural course of things, and get over our prejudices.

It's come down to a Judicial system that believes it can illegally legislate from the bench. Sending Border Patrol agents to prison for doing their job and allowing scum bag drug dealers who enter the country illegally to testify against them.
The judges and lawyers ought to wrought in jail.
They are the ones destroying America.

More people , more money, more jobs, more anything. Canada do the same thing.
According to your government there is no problem with illegal immigrants who come from Mexico or other country's. Maybe its a racial problem than. Be careful though because your grand grand grand father came in the same dumping ground you're talking about .Peace.

Ireland and Mexico both HATE immigrants to their countries. OTOH, they love tourists who spend money.
