The empathetic minister endeavors to find common ground or to speak about subjects that are on the minds of people in order to make his message more appealing. If used with deception it can mislead people.
Having the proper frame of mind is necessary to get the point of counsel across. How ever you need discernment to help a person see the point? For example Nathan didn't go to David and accuse him of a sinful course, he helped David see his own needs. That's why its important to use discernment with truth. So the point is to know first what is truth and how to use empath. See 2 Samuel12:1-14

Spiritual discernment is not an "empath ability", so it not the same thing. Christians rely on God's Spirit , on His revealed word, and fellowship with other believers to help them. This is NOT a "channeling" of some unknown spirit, or the reliance on our own abilities for answers. It is simply the Spirit of God, living within each believer, which let's them be of one mind and heart.
There are some which God does gift with the ability to know immediately the things of His Spirit, and God can use this gift with any believer, at any moment, according the His will. The key to understanding this, is that Christians who are living and abiding in Him and are one with Him, just as Jesus was at one with His father while here on earth.

Everything in this life is either from God or from Satan. Spiritual discernment from God is used to be helpful to others in bringing them into the knowledge of Christ unto salvation. Empathic abilities have the deception of being good, but the end results are not fruitful. They serve only satan.

Spiritual discernment is a must if you want to know if the spirit wants us to do God's Will or to lead us astray. The Bible says that we must "test" the spirits to find out. If anyone doesn't have God's Spirit, thet will be ill equipped to tell. They say that they have it, but how can we know for sure? God gives us evidence which is speaking in an unknown language. The first example is At the first assembly of believers in Acts 1&2. When the Holy Ghost fell upon them, they all spoke in tongues "as the Spirit gave them utterance". There are other examples as well, so from that evidence alone we know that tongues is a must!
The best thing is that it is still used today. We can all experience it for ourselves. All we have to do is follow what is written in Acts 2:38. With His Spirit I overcame alcoholism. Not a drop in 6 years. That is freedom!! With His Spirit we can overcome everything that keeps us bound. And that my friend is total and complete freedom!!

A Christian's discernment comes from the indwelling Holy Spirit and the Bible. All other forms of "spiritual guidance" are opposed to God and opposed by God. The Bible is very clear that such things are false and will only lead you away from God and His truth. In the Old Testament God commanded, 'Let no one be found among you ... who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord' (Deuteronomy 18:10-12).
The Bible urges us to turn in faith to Christ and to seek the truth He has given us in the Bible. God's Word alone gives us spiritual truth; any other path will lead us astray. Occult practices will never tell us with finality what is beyond the grave, but because of His resurrection we can know from Christ everything we need to know."
It is critically important for anyone who has been involved in this or any other occult practice to confess it to God as a sin, renounce the practice, and turn to Jesus Christ for His forgiveness, cleansing and protection. Consultation with a Gospel-preaching pastor may be wise. A book such as "The Bondage Breaker" by Neil Anderson has been helpful to many. It would be available through a Christian bookstore.

Discerning of spirits offers protection from counterfeit spirits posing as an angel of light trying to lead one of God's people away from Him. We are created as spiritual beings in a physical world. Because we are spiritual we look for our direction from a spiritual source. One source is good - God-while the other is evil- satan. Spiritual discernment is needed in order to follow the correct one.

It's all in the label. If a person with a gift claims to be a Christian, it's obviously from God. If a person claims to be of another Religion or of no Religion, then they're obviously deceived by Satan. In my lowly opinion, it's all from the same place... it's HOW a person uses it that matters. Not what label they are wearing at the time. Too many times I have seen people who claim to be Christian do some dirty things to others. Many other Christians will claim they are not a "True" Christian. Obviously the label gives the wearer no power or authority at all. It's What they do and How they do it that determines that. It's the same with "gifts".

We are told in the Bible that discernment comes from God. It is one of His spiritual gifts. I'm not sure what other empath abilities you refer to.

The mark of the beast is believing the devil's lies. Rev 9:4 And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads. The seal of God is the knowledge of the truth. The mark of the beast is the lies of the devil. What's the lie? The lie is that the devil will come before Jesus Christ, looking like Christ, in order for people to worship him. After that the true Christ will come. Rev 13:11 And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, but he spake as a dragon.
