Be certain the gun is unloaded before you proceed. Push slide back until slide retainer pin lines up with the notch on the slide. Push pin through the slide and remove pin, allow slide to move forward and slide can be removed once the slide clears the track. Remove slide spring retainer to remove spring and barrel. The weapon is now broken down for cleaning and should not be broken further unless you are a gunsmith.

RE:
how do you take apart a smith and wesson 9mm model 469 pistol?

By all means get a 9mm. It is also my favorite round and will do the same thing a .40 or .45 will do. I actually owned a .40 caliber Sigma and after the first month every third round would jam with either a failure to eject or failure to feed issue. After 4 months and a trip to a S&W gunsmith I traded it for a 9mm Beretta. Actually if you are looking for inexpensive under 500 bucks, look at the Taurus 24/7 pros and Ruger SR9. A friend of mine owns a 9mm 24/7 with the 5" barrel and it shoots just fine. Very low recoil and smooth shooting. I own the Ruger SR9 and I love it. Very little recoil and very slim and comfortable to wear as a conceal carry weapon if you choose. Hope that helps.

airbob61 is gonna be the closest best answer. My 5906 has a safety lever that lines up like that. You pull the slide back 3/8" to half an inch, and push the safety lever out. Then the slide comes off. Its not hard, but if you get the slide removed it might take a little bit to get it on again.
