My black retriever passed away a year ago. He was such a happy friendly dog to the end. The walks we had together in the park realy lifted my spirit. He was twelve and a half, and the vet said he'd reached his life-span.

Condolances to your baby i am very truly sorry for your loss...I don't really know the life span of a retriever BUT I do know that the more healthier and exercised and LOVED the baby has the longer life span they had vets go by the book when it comes to a dogs life span the typical age But that is not how it always works out It seems as if you had many many good years with your baby although I wish you could have had many many more but just like us as humans there always comes the time just remember he loved you you loved him and you will always have the memories of the LOVE I am truly SORRY for your loss. They say for the dog PEKINGESE the life span is between 12-14 my BUDDY was 19 yrs old he just recently passed over NOV 29TH always healthy his whole life never sick then the night before he got sick I applied a new med called k-9 advantix on him the next day he couldnt breath or walk I immiediately brought him to my vet and the vet said he had PNEUOMONIA hooked up with IV'S THE WHOLE 9 YRDS 3 DAYS LATER HE PASSED I FEEL YOUR EMPTINESS AND YOUR SADNESS BUT REMEMBER HE WILL ALWAYS BE WITH YOU...

Recently we lost our companion in life (a black lab) who was 115 lbs. but in good health and a inside dog he had his own sofa and slept in our bed with us and had his own pillow, we had to buy a king size bed for all three of us. he went every where with us and only stayed over 1 day at the vet once in 14 1/2 years. Passed away from cancer.
We had to put him down a couple of weeks ago. Hardest thing we ever had to do in our lives. We were blessed for 14 1/2 years.

i am so sorry to here about Ur loss i think the life span is about 10-14 don't quote me thought the dogs that normally have the best life span are x breeds i have 2 and a Akita i know the life span of a Akita is only 10 years the reason x breeds tend to live longer than pure breeds is they have no interbreeding going on down the line

hope this helps
once again I'm sorry for Ur loss

My black lab lived to be 14. Very sick the last bit. We probably should have put him down a year sooner, but couldn't do it. Then things got very bad for him. And we had to have him put down. That just about kills you. Labs are THE BEST loyal dogs ever! I don't care what anyone says! They are. So yours was right on the money for life span.

Yes 12yrs is the average life span for a lab retreiver, some do live longer but it all depends on there health.Feel blessed you had him as long as you did and that he remained happy untill he passed away.
