Weightlifting is a great tool for getting in shape. the advice i would give is to hit alot of cardio (treadmill, crosstrainer, stair stepper, etc), anything to get your heart rate up and get a good sweat going. cardio will burn fat. hit at least 30minutes 5 days a week and you will see a huge change in you energy level throughout the day and will see a gradual change in weight over time. healthy weightloss does not happen overnight. so dont get frustrated. 2 pounds a week is a great start. once you start loosing the belly fat, then you can start hitting the crunches to chissle out that nice 6pack!

60% of your workout is what you eat. thats right, cut out the fastfood, junkfood(which you have done! good job!), and sodas. like you said drink alot of water. eat smaller meals. eat less more often! eat about 5to6 times a day. eat alot of grilled chicken, tuna, raw fruits and veggies and maybe a hangful of nuts a day(surf the net for many great meal plans!). cant say it enough Drink More Water!!!

good luck!

Stopped eating junkfood Great!!! YOu can eat junk food in moderation. Water Water Water while exercising. You can do crunches for your tummy i know peopple say that it doesn't work but it does start at about 15 and increase 5 each week. I am sorry I do not know waist exercises. Really food wise just eat fruits and veggies no fatting dips for them. Eat multi grains and grains in moderation. Eat fish and seafood at times if u like it EAt ice cream and cookioes and all that wqhen u think u did a good job for the past week and it is at the end and u say i did a good job and go get ice cream but only in moderation. ANd remeber to eat vitamins and minerals ur body needs that. Oh I frgot in the foods. Dariy products. Cheese milk and yogury and cottage cheese and eggs eat some of that too I know it soundsike ot. but you are only 18 resuts are appen you are srtill a little young but you may get in shape no doubt. I hope you read this and take some of my advice. Oh yeah NEVER over do it. Whe nur body says enough it is enough. but do not say that after u only did 2 situps or crunches ok.

you're on the right track, keep it up.

it's really hard to burn fat in a specific area. your genetics decide where your body stores fat, so all you can do is keep lean so you'll look your best.

however - do lots of core work like pilates, yoga, situps, exercise ball work etc. that'll help tone up your waist and tummy.

there are 2 basic reasons weightlifting burns fat: one, it's a really hard workout which kicks your metabolism and natural growth hormones into gear. two, over time you'll build muscle mass which burns more energy even when resting. don't worry about getting "bulky" - it's possible but for most women is not a problem.

cut out foods that are made from flour, rice, or corn. eat lots of fresh foods. get in the habit of reading the ingredients on things - the longer the list, more likely it's bad for you.

also learn all the various names for sugar - glucose dextrose corn syrup etc so you can avoid those.

you'll do fine - when you're 18 your body is natrually strong and fit, you'll see rapid changes.
