We married at Gretna in 1999. There was only 5 other guests. We stayed at a nearby hotel and married at 5.00pm on the Friday. The Old Forge was clear of sight seers by that time and we had the place to ourselves. It was a really moving ceremony and we all enjoyed the experience. Total cost about £500. The hotel was smallish but very friendly.

There is a great hotel that opened in Gretna last year and I checked it out a fortnight ago at a wedding fair. Its not very pricey but it all depends on what you are looking for. You can get married in the Penthouse suite if you like and it has a rotating bed and massive bath check out:

They also have special wedding packages that include accomodation, transport and the ceremony which are cheaper then buying everything seperately.
good luck!

My wife and I got married there 4 years ago. I forget the costs (we had a civil service marriage). My wife liked it there. It was like wedding factory. I didn't like it because the Scots are not the friendliest bunch in the world. The tourist atmosphere was overpowering.
Ok, I just asked my wife. She said if you like the wedding atmosphere (seeing all the brides), you'll love it there. But she told me if you want to be the center of attention, consider going somewhere else. She also said that it's not the most romantic place to go, but she doesn't regret going.

You can get accommodation at Gretna to suit your pocket, from little guest houses who will make you very, very welcome to really good hotels who will do the same. Don't listen to the posting of 'Big Daddy Jim' I can assure you we Scots are REALLY friendly and just love people from wherever in Britain or in fact in the world to come here to wed. All the very best to you.
