I am planning a wedding in Las Vegas, and one the date, the sunset is at 7:41 p.m. I have heard that the Stratosphere is really nice, but looks really expensive.

Do you think I could have my wedding at 6:30, and invite my guests for dessert at the Stratosphere, and this way would not have to pay for dinner, or is dinner the only way to do this without insulting 20-30 guests?

I'm afraid at 6:30 guests will expect dinner.

I would suggest moving the wedding up some. Have a good span of time between the wedding & the reception. You could get tickets to a local buffet and hand to guests as they are leaving; they can eat a buffet supper while you are doing pictures and freshening up and then meet you for superb desserts & views in the stratosphere at 7:00. You can leave during or shortly after the sunset.

I think this way you can get everything you want at a price you can afford.

Congrats & good luck!!!!

I think it's fine to have a dessert reception after a 6:30 pm wedding. Just be sure to notify guests that you will be having a dessert reception so they know to eat before. There is a range to dinner time, many people begin eating dinner as early as 5:00 pm; they do not have to eat dinner necessarily at 6:30. If you can, you may also consider having a sunset ceremony at 7:30 or 7:00 pm which would give them extra time to have dinner before your ceremony. And I think a sunset ceremony would be very romantic.

You can't have a 6:30 wedding and then not provide dinner since that's the dinner hour. However you could have an afternoon wedding (around 3:00) and then just do dessert. Another thing you could do is have a midnight wedding which would be extremely romantic. You could have a late night dessert or breakfast reception. Good luck.

You have to do dinner if your wedding is in the evening/late afternoon! The Stratosphere is not the place to put your guests. It is too far up the strip and kind of "blah". I just stayed there 2 weeks ago and was very unhappy. I understand that their wedding packages are expensive as well.

Yes, it's insulting not to feed your guests whatever snack or meal is appropriate to the time of day.

Three choices:
- have an earlier wedding
- have a 6:30 wedding and provide dinner
- elope and deposit the difference in a Roth IRA

If I had it to do over I would choose #3.

There should be some kind of way to mention in the invite to join us for desserts to celebrate afterwards. I have heard of people having afternoon or brunch weddings and serving lunch or brunch instead of dinner. Look it up in a wedding ettiquette book.

If I was going to a 6:30 wedding, I know I would assume that dinner was being served.

I don't think you should invite them to that place if you can't afford it. Yes...it is YOUR wedding but that makes YOU the host. If you are paying for everythingelse, you should definitely include the bill for dinner. You don't want your guests refering to your wedding as the "worst one" they have ever been to! I think you should find a place you can afford...or... talk to the manager of the place and see if they would host your party for a set price or something.(probably not) but it's worth a shot.

GIrl, you need to feed your guests dinner. C'mon, most people feed 100 or 200!

There's nothing wrong with that option as long as you make your guests aware that you won't be providing dinner.
