Most dogs and cats will travel pretty well by car. You have to put them in a carrier though. I think a plane would be far scarier for them as they will lose all contact with you. If they've never ridden in the car, then you can get them adjusted by riding them around the block at first and then a little further as they get used to it. I would recommend "training" each of them individually first. Then work up to the full group. The cats will need a litter box for a long trip and if you have a pick up truck with camper that would likely work best for them. Actually one large cage for all cats would be fine. The dog will be much easier. Just take him for a walk when you make a rest stop. When you do stop, talk to the cats and "reassure" them. I've raised both cats and dogs and have had to transport them on many occasions. Cats MUST be caged or they crawl up in the dash or under the pedals. Most dogs like the car, but I did have one that always threw up every time. I gave up on taking him anywhere. Be careful upon reaching your destination and release the cats in the house. They will be a little freaky and dioriented. If they have a toy or item that they will identify by their own smell, make sure that's handy when you let them out. Within a few hours they should be back to normal.

I would probably say plane. Because you have a less of a chance of one being scared and escaping during your trip. Where as a plane can get them to the destination quicker. It will cost you more to fly them.
But, if you can have it figured out and take every percaution so that one does not escape take them with you. The dog certainly will be less traumatized. Be very careful with the cats. Also, contact your vet you can get a setitive to help calm them down.
I am sorry, I don't think I was much help.
FYI - Georgia has a huge pet overpopulation problem, well so does Wisconsin. Make sure your pets are spayed/neutered and get them microchipped!! That way if one does end up missing your odds of finding them have increased by 50%.
I don't think you are interested in getting another pet, but just an FYI read about the 10 reasons why you want to get a pet from a shelter/rescue group. (82% kill rate at a Georgia shelter)

Hope your trip goes well and safely!!

I agree with the first answer. By car. A plane ride would totally freak out the cats. I have two cats and when I moved although it was only 15 miles it was tramatic for me because I knew that they were scared while in the car and it upset ME. I talked to them during the whole trip. I figured it couldn't hurt. Cats especially are freaked out by loud noises that they are not familiar with. I turned the pet carriers so that they could see each other. I figured that might help. On a long trip like you are attempting I hope you have at least a minivan.

are you traveling in an suv or a camper truck or something of that size if you are then i would reccomend buying 5 carriers and transport by vehicle cause then the cats are not climbing all over you in the vehicle and you will have a much easier time traveling with them . good luck and I hope I helped .

By car. My little dog gets really nervous when she has to be left alone, i.e. at the groomers, or when I go to work. She seems fine as long as she knows that I am with her, no matter how long and hard on her the trip is.
