My 6 month old dachshund/bull terrior mix (with whatever the daddy is too) likes to do nothing more than play play play. Never a break. I understand he is a pup and this is normal, but there is not 5 minutes to myself with my little guy, not even to go to the bathroom. He barely knows his name it seems and tends to ignore us when we call him or try to get his attention, especially when he doesn't want to stop doing what he is doing. I work diligently trying to train him but he only listens when I have food in my hand.

He is getting neutered next week and I would love to know what to expect from him. Will he calm down? Will I be experiencing a set of new problems with him? This is not my first dog, but is my first male dog. If you have any websites to view, please list them.

he will calm down somewhat...but...he is still a pup and still in the learning mode..train him with small doggie treats when he does good and a stern verbal no when he doesn't...i sometimes use a cardboard tube..makes noise when i rap it on a wall...it's enough to make him pay attention!!!...lol...i NEVER hit the dog..he'll be scared of you then...i have dachshunds..and they are hyper to begin with

Yes, you will find his overall temperment will change for the better. However, he will not all of a sudden turn into a lazy dog. He will be more calm especially a few days after the neuter. You will notice that he will still be hyper at times, but will also be able to settle down. Housetraining should become easier as well if it is a difficulty right now.

I would take him to a experienced trainer it might cost a little but he might calm down because he owns some knowedge and when u say sit or lie down he will do it and stop playing playing and playing. He will not look for a female as much so that u do not have to worry about so much. You can look in ur library or ur local book store snd ask them " Is there any books on caring for dogs" THey wil probably say yes then u look at them and decide which is the best for ur type of dog. YOur dog is a pup u said so he is going to play and play and play so do play with to get all the energy out and might sleep for u tonight. SO hope u take my advice

my pup was pretty hyper as well, and neutering had little to no effect. as he has gotten older he has calmed down some. The vet told me that he didnt expect my pup to have any change after the surgery. All i can say it to try to wear him out some, walks especially those in new places seemed to help me. Also make sure he knows you are the leader of the pack.

Neutering could help somewhat. even yet it won't clean up the subject. Goldens are very hyper, energetic canines, and you have a golden domestic dog. the main suitable factor to do is take obedience instructions with your canines. Your canines can learn some manners and you will uncomplicated approaches to tutor him those manners. additionally, on an huge-unfold basis walks will help lots. puppies want exercising, particularly a golden domestic dog. have you ever governed out any medical problem with the canines? maximum puppies act this sort, yet in some uncommon circumstances, you do get some neurotic canines that want medicine. Obedience training and walks may be the 1st step.

I have owned 4 Miniature Schnauzers and never got one neutered. You need to put your dog on a leash and work with him. With him on the leash you have control. He will learn YOU are TOP DOG. You must also allow the fact he is a pup. Neuturing a dog is not what calms him down. A dog that knows he/she is NOT TOP DOG works
