At the hearing they had me sign a power of attornet so they could take my tax return if it was over a thousand dollars, will they keep it all or just part of it

The federal government does not need you to sign anything to take your federal tax refund if you owe back taxes (bankruptcy does not clear these and certain other debits). Likely you assigned your tax refund to your creditors. How much they will take depends on the wording of what you signed.

While you are in bankruptcy, the bankruptcy trustee has the right to take your tax refund to use to pay off your debts. If your debts exceeds the amount of your refund, they will take all of it.

Just did this in Ohio courts and the trustee in court gets a percentage and the attorney takes it to pay to the creditors if it is required and then you get back any that is left..they said its to pay off some of your debt...
