I am with those who say that the parents need to take better control. And no, if those kids are a right pain in their parents' bums, I don't feel sorry for the parents at all. They must like being tortured.
It is a shame we can't have a law that fines parents who do not make the little monsters mind, or keep them at home.

A lot of parents have no clue when it comes to disciplining their children! So yes, a lot of people let their kid act up and don't do anything about it! And it can be really irritating.

Another thing - a lot of parents today have these big gigantic battleship-sized baby carrages (or "prams" as you British folks call them)!

They take up way too much space and that can be REALLY irritating - especially here in New York City, where the stores are very small. You can't get by them and they won't move the damned baby carrage out of the way.

Or, there will be two parents walking side by side with these huge baby battleships, and they will be blocking the whole sidewalk and walking really really slow - I HATE that!!!

OK. Number 1: babies (and I'm talking infants) cry. The parents, if they are good parents, should drop what they are shopping for and take care of their baby's needs, but you can't help that they do cry.

Number 2: if they are toddlers or young children who are just throwing tantrums, then their parents need to be disciplining them.

Number 3: People who say you need to get a new job or learn how to handle it are probably people with children and are being biased. (no, I do not have children, but i do have a young niece who goes to malls and "shops" all the time, but doesn't get away with acting up. we leave the store if she does.) As for the making you ill part, when you hear the screaming baby just try to blank it out. If you try not to get overwhelmed by it, then maybe you would not get "ill".

I can empathize with your being stressed. It is hard to imagine any noise more irritating. There is not much you can do to control it unless you try to deal with it on an individual basis by asking the parent why the child is making so much noise and if there is anything you can do to help. That could embarass them enough for them to leave the store but I doubt it. The parents have no manners or they would take proper care of their children.

You may be better off changing jobs to a place where children aren't frequently around.

A baby can't help it, although the parent should have a bottle or some kind of snack (Sippy cup for a toddler). For toddlers the parents need to make them behave, but when they are tired and hungry they are going to act up and it is up to the parents to take care of the situation.

I know it drives me crazy, too! I worked in retail for many years and it's amazing how many people let their children go crazy when they are out in public. Now what really irritates me is when I'm in the dressing room and some stupid woman in the room next to mine won't make her kid stop screaming or crying or whining or whatever other annoying noise the child is making. I go shopping only when my husband can keep my daughter at home and I can have a little time to myself and it bothers me when other people bring their bratty kids and then don't make them behave. I will tell people to please make their child be quiet if it gets really bad. I'm there to enjoy myself and relax and I don't need some spoiled child ruining it for me. You should be banned from shopping if you can't control your children in public, period!

Well would you be too happy if you were made to sit in
a pushchair for hours and dragged around the shops.Where does it say in their contract that a baby has to enjoy shopping.
As for 3/4 year olds same thing goes, oh what fun to be dragged
from shop to shop for hours being bashed by giants with their shopping bags when you only come up to their knees.
Have a bit of patience girl or change jobs.
95% of bad behaviour in children is down to bad parenting.

I am totally with you on this one. Everytime I go to tescos there is some out of control brat running around or even worse wheeling around on those wheelie shoes (devil creations).

Their parents dont bother telling them off and when the little brats run into my trolley and hurt themselves, its me that gets the dirty looks off their parents for hurting their little angels (I would never hurt a child for all those people who think that they run into my trolley on purpose).

People with kids always think that they should be allowed to get away with inflicting themselves on people without children.

Both my best friends have children who (aged 3 & 10) know to behave themselves in public places, to stand beside the trolley and behave themselves or there will be trouble.

I knew to behave myself in public when i was a child too.

Babies dont usually cry for no reason, they could be hungry, tired from being drug around from store to store while mommy has to shop. Kids cry....if you do not like it and there are babies around you every single day, maybe you need a different job.

Perhaps you could try foam earplugs if you don't have to do much talking yourself. But it's a pain taking them out every time you want to talk to someone. They're actually very comfortable and convenient.
