About 2 weeks ago I got a lovely pet budgie (parakeet). Now my room mate is convinced that she's allergic. (She got some breakouts in her face.) I have offered to only keep him only in my room, vaccum every other day and even buy an air purifier but she's stubborn and demands that he leaves. The only compromise she was willing to make was to have an allergy check but untill then he has to stay with my mother. I really miss him. :( Any advice for me?

tell her to take a benadryl and get over her self. if she were truly allergic she would be sneezing, coughing, or even having difficulty breathing. usually break outs caused by allergies is something being used on the skin. has she rubbed the bird on her face?

Usually if someone appears to have an allergic reaction to the bird, it is from the dander of the bird. Allergies can become quite severe - so if you choose to stay with your roommate, you will have to consider that this is a health risk for your roommate. If people don't pay attention to their allergies, they can get asthma and you can die from asthma. But this is not generally the case. May be giving the bird a bath daily and changing the bottom of the cage daily, put a hepa filter on the AC may also help. Also your roommate may have to take an over the counter medication for the allergy.

I find it a bit difficult to believe a bird allergy from a budgie, bird allergies result in sneezing difficulty in breathing etc, certainly not a breakout on the face. Dander from birds is mostly greys, teils and cockatoo not a budgie. Good that she is ready to compromise but, breakouts on the face of young girls come from other things, the budgie is just a convenient scapegoat.

Yea Toralind, Allergy come from many things so room mate can find out what it is. Budgies are small don't usually bother. If bird is gone & allergy still bothers & U cleaned may b house allergen - dust, etc. Try bird bath on cage or bowl in sink. They love that.

Yes, you should vacuum at least every other day regardless. A clean house is nice. As to the bird, I'd kick her out, and keep the parakeet. You can always get a new roommate.
