As soon as they can sit up is the best time to start having them sit at the table.

My youngest is 2 and still in a high chair, but sitting in at the table with the rest. He was in his high chair from 5 months eating with the rest of the family. When it's just me and him then he sits in a booster (occupied at other times by his brother) at the table. When we are eating out then he just sits in a normal chair at the table.
He might seem old to still be in a high chair but I can take him anywhere and he sits still. I think he is so used to being in the one spot that he just accepts this as norm rather than having been allowed to sit at the table too soon and not have been so easy to keep seated for any length of time. Once I get the kitchen table better positioned then he can get a booster, but he is perfectly happen with the current arrangements and makes no to-do about it.

My children sat at the table from the time they were babies. We'd put their infant chair or baby carseat in a chair and feed them while we were eating. We continued to have them at the table as they were able to sit in a high chair and then moved from there to booster seats at the table. They loved being part of the family and seeing everyone together. Yes they get fussy as little ones but that's to be expected. It was also easier for them to learn to use utensils and see that while at the table they have to sit still. Never had a problem with them wanting to wander or being fussy after they reached 2 and 3. Now 5 and 6 can sit through a very long meal without any problems.

My children began to sit at the table from the time they were in a highchair. It was put up against the family table. Then as the manners became less messy, the tray was taken off and they sat in the highchair using the table with us. When they were big enough to sit in a booster seat, then the transition was made to chair and table. It was a natural progression and was no problem ever.

As soon as they can sit in a high chair ! . Obviously it would be unrealistic to expect a toddler to sit at the table for a great length of time ,so set realistic goals.

Start them early so they learn table manners. We kept ours with us since birth but in the little car seat next to us. Once he could sit up, he got a high chair. He knows table time is family time and how to behave. He's only 2.

As soon as they can sit in a high chair, take it to the table and let them eat with the rest of the family. Even if they have the tray in front of them, and are eating something different. It`s nice when the family all eat together instead of `grazing` individually, and this will start and encourage good habits.
