Came out of hospital yet again few weeks ago from Crohns and after receiving 9 bags of antibiotics and sigmoidoscopy, and an extra week of oral antibiotics. Cant seem to get back on my feet and its a real uphill struggle. Been trying to carry on as normal now I have flu. Have to go back in March for another colonoscopy.
My consultant has been great, but my GP has had a terrible attitude with me, he makes me feel I'm faking everything and stupidly asked me how do I know I have crohns. My consultant has since contacted me he wants to see me 12th Monday. I just need support and advice from anyone else who may have it. I joined NACC, but just want to talk to people like me, I am a 51 yr old woman with a young outlook, just not used to being so poorly.

your immune system is always low for a while after an illness and you will pick up other illnesses as a result. A family member has this and it does take a long time to recover after a bad period. try not to worry as it will make you more run down. Your GP sounds like hes ignorant and may not know as much about the illness as he is suppose too. when you see your consultant on Mon tell him to write to your GP about how crohns is affecting and how you need support from him. You need to be strong as you cant let your GP walk all over you. Good luck and i hope everything works out for you.

I also have chroins so i do know how you feel. You don't say if you have ever had a operation to remove any of your intestine effected by chroins. I had the operation 6 years ago had it has had a huge impact on my life it has been so much better. Until then i was taking anti biotics and steroids and my immune system was at zero. I had colds and flu's every few weeks and ended up in hospital on a regular basis.

The only advise i can give is to try and use common sense when out avoid anyone who has even a slight cold and take some vitamin supplements and avoid anything with fibre.
If you are not happy with your doctor change them . With an illness like chroins you need to have a good relationship with your doctor as it effects everybody differently your doctor should know how it effects you.
Try and remember it does get better and we have all got depressed by it . It can be embarrassing, uncomfortable, tiring and painful so you do get down but you have family and friends to support you and remember you are not alone unfortunately there are lots of us out here who have felt the same way. But i am proof that it does get better. Good luck

I believe your immune system is down due to the Crohns. Who diagnosed you with Crohns if it wasn't your GP? Are you positive it's Crohns and not Colitis, or irritable bowel? I worked with a lady that said she had crohns, she was away from work alot. She went to a different doc just to see what they would say about her symptoms..........turns out she was being treated for Crohns but in fact didn't have it. Once she stopped treatment for Crohns her symptoms improved greatly. I would make some changes in your diet, see what happens,is there improvement? You should never feel your doc thinks you are a faker,if this is how you are being treated, I think a new doc is in order. It is very important that you can talk freely with your doc,if you can't do that, alot of information may be lost and the wrong diagnosis might be made. Good luck.

I had ulcerative colitis when I was younger (same thing as crohns except in the large intestine). I had a surgery to take care of it, but the other day I saw an Indian technique called "ayurveda" that focuses on body balances and such; I kind of wish I would have tried it had I known about it. It sounds all mystical and all, but India has been doing the equivalent of modern medicine for several thousand years. Besides crohns is an autoimmune disease with no cure, it's worth a shot.

But, if you have crohns, why is your doctor giving you antibiotics? Don't they usually prescribe some sort of steroid?

Check out PRESCRIPTION FOR NUTRITIONAL HEALING by the Balch's. If you have had antibiotics, you should take probiotics to get the environment in the digestive system re-established. Dr. West says a most important part of health is the 3 pounds of intestinal flora we should have. Is the problem "leaky gut syndrome"? I wonder if taking juice for one meal a day (preferably fresh juiced organic fruits or vegetables) would help. That allows the digestive system to rest. The digestive system works for about 5 hours after you eat, so if you eat three meals a day it is working most of the time. I would try one meal a day, and the other foods being fresh juices. The fresh juices are almost like an I.V. . They go right into the system without being digested. Charcoal might help be adsorbing irritants. Like three hours after a meal have a glass of water with a teaspoon of charcoal in it. Be sure not to eat within 5 hours of going to bed. Let the food get digested before you turn in and turn the body down, so food does not rot in the digestive system.

Immune system is shot. I have to say as a women with crohns I would not take the advise of another and add alot of fiber to your diet that can cause an attack. I have noticed that diet has alot to do with controlling your crohns.
Been in remission 2 1/2 years

You poor thing. I am sorry for your GP's attitude. I think if dr's suffered from any illness they would have more sympathy. I am guessing that your immune system is shot. Also while in the hospital you were exposed to many virus' and sorry to say that not all caregivers wash hands as they should.

you need high fiber diet.
oatmeal or any good food that is high in fiber
drink only the purest of waters
be careful of your diet and ask the Dr. for a list of foods you may and may not eat...like foods with seeds, or popcorn..etc etc
there is Web Med aniline ...surf the Internet under croons.

keep a list of your BM and don't go to long without a BM..every day at least once
you are probably in poor spirits as this can be very tiring.
you are probably tired of being sick and tired.
i know you don't feel good now but soon you are going to feel wonderful..diet and exercise will do wonders with getting a lot of natural sunshine..good luck as I have IBS and that is no fun either.
watch your intake of foods like greasy chicken as these oils can clog up your system ..stay away from trans fats..nuts..and any hulls like popcorn..chew your food completly@mealtime and eat a lot of nutritional snacks like apples but watch the skins and seeds

Yes, it seems those with Crohns need to boost their immune system, because the immune system doesn't seem to have a lot of energy left after trying to deal with Crohns.

I suggest you try Propolis tablets from Bee Health. They boost your immune system.
