Jesus also said that if you look at a woman with lust, you have committed adultry with her in your heart. I guess we could say the same about women looking at men with lust, too.

Adultery=a married person having voluntary (a good point someone else included since rape of a married person is not adultery by that person) sex with someone who is not their spouse. This means it is an improper sexual relationship plus a violation of the marriage of one or more persons.

Hebrews 13:4 All of you should honor marriage. You should keep the marriage bed pure. God will judge the person who commits adultery. He will judge everyone who commits sexual sins.

This quite general passage includes all sexual sin. The original language words are specific and involve different situations, (where marriage is involved and where it is not) but both of the main word roots are here.

... it is not wrong BECAUSE it is in the "10 commandments" since that law is not in effect any longer. The Hebrews passage I cited makes it clear that it is still wrong, but many Christians misunderstand the status of the law. It is improper to say that some PARTS of the law changed (like sacrifices) and other PARTS are still in effect. It is a single document and was replaced by a single document in the new covenant.

Ephesians 2:15 Through his body on the cross, Christ put an END to the LAW WITH ALL ITS COMMANDS AND RULES. He wanted to create one new group of people out of the two. He wanted to make peace between them.

Colossians 2:14 He wiped out the written Law with its rules. The Law was against us. It opposed us. He took it away and nailed it to the cross.

Galatians 2:16 ...No one can be made right with God by obeying the law.

Galatians 2:21 ...What if a person could become right with God by obeying the law? Then Christ died for nothing!

Galatians 5:4 Some of you are trying to be made right with God by obeying the law. You have been separated from Christ. You have fallen away from God’s grace... The ONLY verse that talks about falling from grace, and they did it by trying to follow the law!

Jesus said he didn’t come to destroy the law, but to fulfill it. (Matt 5:17) The effect was the same. Once fulfilled it was no longer in effect. The very next verse, Matthew 5:18, looks forward to the time when the law would be set aside. "...Not even the smallest stroke of a pen will disappear from the Law UNTIL EVERYTHING IS COMPLETED." IF the law were intended to be permanent, the "UNTIL..." clause would be meaningless.

On the cross, Jesus' last recorded saying, "It is finished," is an important milestone. Because of Jesus life, Satan had been defeated. The law was finished and would no longer stand between God and mankind.

The 10 commandments along with the rest of the law ("commands and rules" from Ephesians 2:15) were "set aside" when they were fulfilled or completed at Jesus' resurrection. We are no longer bound by that law.

God created sex. He created sex to be enjoyed within a marriage only. Adultery is when you stray from that in any way. Lusting fits into the commandment "Do not covet your neigbors' house, wife or anything else belonging to your neighbor" So this one covers the actual sexual purity that you would keep for your future spouse if you're single and keep for your spouse if you're married. And this purity goes for men too!
God wants us to enjoy sex to its fullest. These rules are here for us.

it means "do not have sex outside marriage" What one must realize though, is that though this is a list of do nots, the reason for every single do not, is not because God wants to restrict our lives, but because he want to protect us from pain, look again at the 10 commandments, there is a consiquence of pain for every single one, a two fold consiquence of pain, not only for yourself (which may not be immediate) but also for the person that is on the other end of it (usually immediate). the thing about adultery, you cause your souls to mingle as well, (the two become one flesh) you can never undo who you have sex with.
