I just looked in the nest and my 2 hatchlings are now wide eyed and growing so much! One of them was born with some downy gray feathers and the other was bald..until this morning! The one that was bald is completely white...will she/he stay white or mostly white at this point? The mother is 70% white with some gray patches and the father is the regular average gray.

No, I don't have parakeets...How are finches related to parakeets other then both being birds?

Ah, once those feathers start growing they grow very quickly! Baby Zebs start out naked, then briefly develop white downy feathers, then their grey colouring comes in...

If the babies are going to stay white or partially white, this will be obvious within just a few days. A big clue is also if their beaks are pale pink rather than charcoal grey - then at least their faces will be white.

If the father carries the recessive (invisible) 'pied' gene (= white patches), then about half of this pair's babies will be pied. :)

Do you have regular parakeets because they are related to each other.
