I told a girl friend of many years that I like her a whole lot. I said I could not date, but I am considering asking her out in the future. She said she wanted to remain friends, ans she thought we really have a lot of fun together. She also wanted our friendship to grow to which I said my feelings might grow. At first, she was hesitant then we both started growing as friends. Our friendship grew until we were very close. Now, she knows so much about me that she wants to know the secret desires of my heart. We have the most intimate conversations between us. I have no such conversations with any other girls.

I'd say it's time for you to take things to the next level. This means you'll have to risk losing her as a friend if she's not interested in dating you but that's just a risk you'll have to take. Go for it and good luck!

this is a pickle now, the two of you are ready to be in a relationship, but you have a great/special friendship. if for some reason being together in a relationship doesn't work out, you probably won't get that friendship back. So how much do you value that friendship should determine if you even ask her out in the future. that's something you should worry about first before her reaction...

I think she wants to take it slowly as you guys are friends. She probably doesn't want to take it too fast at the risk of ruining a perfectly good friendship.
