The reason Stewart is so good is because he has an inner drive that is very intense. If you've never competed at level where this is what separates winners from losers, then its pretty hard to understand.

Tony is the man, and the best driver on the track. I don't know if anyone can win 7 championships like Petty and Earnhardt did because the cars are so evenly matched and the competition is so tough. But Tony will win other cups and is now the current man to beat.

Each generation of NASCAR has it greats. The ones mentioned here were the best for their generation and are amoung the all time best.
Then the generation that includes Stewart,J.Gordon is developing the drivers that will be the Pettys-Waltrips etc.
Then the newer generation is stepping in Khane-Hamlin.
So each generation has the makings of a champion that will be remembered and we each like a different driver some of use will have a driver who is a champion, some of us will not.
It takes a team to win,and the fans to support it.

I'm not going to try and take anything away from Tony's driving ability, he's as talented as they come. Robbie Gordon is an incredibly talented driver as well but they are their own worst enemies. Consistency and longevity in NASCAR today is much more dependent on staying calm under pressure and bringing your car to the finish line every week. Unfortunately for Smoke fans his emotions and rash actions cost him finishes and points. I know it's a macho thing and a lot of people think it is cool (driving like you own the track and wrecking people) but it is not smart. His temper cost him points last year and he didn't even make the chase. He makes watching races exciting and I respect that he is one of the best drivers out there but when it is all said and done he will have cost himself championships that he probably could have won.

Does winner = make your own rules, and then be the first to break them (no bump-zone)? Just when I want to start liking the guy he turns into a hypocrite! Why does he do that!!! He may have put his heart and soul into achieving a goal, but so have half the other nascar drivers... I would love to be a fan of the 20, but every time I get close, he lets me down by being a jerk...
