She should be on a leash. Even if it is a dog park. Not all owners take responsibility and there are a lot of dogs out there without shots and proper training. Just because your dog is well trained does not always mean that he won't get into a fight and possibly get hurt. Always leash your dog.
Aside from that, possibly take her to an obedience class.

I have the same problem with my Golden Retriever and think that many gundogs especially are fond of picking up and eating every type of garbage imaginable.
Its a natural instinct which you will find impossible to curb if she is off the lead. The only suggestion I have is to keep her ON the lead in places where the public frequent and where there is a high chance of her finding discarded trash and let her off if you can find more remote places to walk her.
I do not agree with you beating her. That is not the way to train any dog either to do something or to stop her from bad habits.

Sounds like so far you have left out an important part of obedience training. "Pay attention to me".
When on lead anytime a dogs nose goes to the ground, you have lost the dog, because it's brains just ran out it's nose. So when the dog starts to drop it's head, give the lead a quick "pop" strait upward along with a command like "head up". The dog will soon learn to pay attention to you and will be a completely different animal from then on.

She acts this way as a natural reaction; she is in a different environment where there are so many things for her to explore. The litter she is eating is also something new and may have the odor of food on it. About the only thing that you can do is when she tries to eat something, tell her firmly NO! and pull her away from it.

You have to "beat and threaten " her..That turned my stomach.
As in many pets, it is the owner that needs to learn how to take care of their pet!..There is a reason she eats poop BTW, she is lacking a nutrient, and plus..that is a natural thing for dogs to do!!!
For the sake of your poor abused dog, that keeps getting beaten by an ignorant owner..please educate yourself on how to properly take care of her. Go to training classes, where the dog and YOU will learn more appropriate behaviours.

Try one of those retractable leashes and as soon as she eats stuff, put her back on the short leash. She'll get the idea that you are to be listened to if she wants to run and play. Please don't beat her or threaten as that makes you out of control and then she doesn't want to follow an out of control person. You keep control. Bet she's pretty. Pet her for me.

hello. i would pick up the trash that the area your in or you could train her and treat her until she listens. grant her rewards or once in a while if she doesn't listen then tap her on the butt and say no. she will eventually listen. my dog would do that and he listens to me cuz i trained him.
