What do people mean by this? (I'm particularly interested in hearing from those who believe it).

Is it the claim that scientists and others are deliberately putting forward something they know to be untrue?

Is it the claim that whilst scientists and others who put forward evolution are themselves honest in believing it to be true but that they are "decieved by the devil"? So whilst people are wrong in many of their opinions this (and perhaps a few others) is not the result of error but deliberate demonic deception?

Is it just a lazy and insulting jibe from those who have run out of arguments?

It's a lazy and insulting jibe.

Kind of a general-purpose one: if I don't like something, it's from the Devil. Oh, and if I like something, it's from God. Convenient, hey?

You are obviously not a very intelligent person as your question does not make any sense.

Why would the evolution argument be a 'lie from the devil'? The devil is the flip side of god and therefore if you are foolish enough to believe in god and all the other religious garbage that goes with it, then you must also believe in the devil.

It therefore follows that if you are not a simple minded creationist and you believe in the truth of science and evolution then you cannot as a matter of fact believe in the devil and as such the whole premise of your question falls apart.

Try reading Richard Dawkin's excellent book The God Delusion. It is to the 21st century what the bible was to the dark ages.

Or to put it another way. We evolved and you didn't!

PS. How on earth can religious morons claim that scientists are putting forward claims that they know are untrue. Isn't this what creationists have been doing themselves for centuries?

They claimed the earth was flat, they then claimed that the sun revolved around the earth and they also claimed (up until the mid 19th century) that the world was created in a week about 6,000 years ago.

We now know that all these 'truths' are in fact complete garbage and so it is with all the other beliefs that they still hold to be true.

It is just a lazy and insulting jibe from those who have run out of arguments.

See, if someone can prove just one part of the Bible wrong, then to them it means that the entire Bible must be wrong. Or if the story of the Garden of Eden is a myth, then there is no downfall, no original sin, and thus no reason for Jesus.

Even If evolution is "a lie of the devil" clearly some people believe it. And thus those who present the belief are not putting forward something they "know to be untrue". Science is observable phenomena, and testable theories as to their cause and meaning. Evolutionism is not testable, and thus is outside the realm of "science". The point is that people need some level of confidence in their belief system. Their belief system has great influence on their actions. Because evolutionism (which is a religion) has gained the support of "science" it leads many to feel that the basic questions about our origins have been answered (and actually they haven't) so they don't have to consider what mighty one to worship, and stand in awe of,--- "it just happened, by accident"--- so they are "permitted" by "science" to worship nothing, (or themselves).

It's fearmongering by those who have an interest in controlling ignorant, uneducated people.

The devil does not exist in literal form.

See, Christianity (and most organized, heirarchical religions) are like viruses of the mind. They spread by human-to-human contact, just like a virus spreads.

And the Christian mind virus is like a parasite, depending on its human hosts for support, so it has to construct mechanisms to keep its human hosts supporting it and also defense mechanisms to prevent the human hosts from expelling it. If the human hosts were to stop believing in the validity of the Christian "meme", then the Christian mind virus would die off.

And the people at the top of the Christian mind virus pyramid, i.e., the Church officials and whatnot, do not want that to happen since that's how their bread is buttered. So they reinforce those fear-based myths in their followers' minds to keep them from leaving.

Ever wonder why the Christian doctrine is against abortion and birth control? It's not because abortion is murder, because throughout history the Christian Church has either endorsed murder (Crusades, Inquisition) or turned a blind eye to it (Catholic Church, Holocaust), especially when rival religions were involved.

No, it's because the more poor, ignorant, uneducated souls that are born onto this planet, the greater the Christian mind virus' chances for survival. Christianity thrives in conditions of ignorance, poverty and misery, so that's why they oppose birth control and abortion.

Only Biblical fundamentalists who insist on a literal interpretation of the Creation-story which originated in ancient Babylonia believe that evolution is false. Every rational person, whether Christian or not, has long since accepted evolution as the explanation for the development of species on this planet.

Evolution explains a process of adaptation and change. Not very difficult. But look at how it is presented by all sides on here and it is very clear that most people on here only have a superficial level of knowledge (what appears to be from the mass media---who by the way are not necessarily more educated nor more intelligent than the rest of us) on the subject and then are trying to pass it on as if they are truly experts. That is probably alright as that is how most of us live our lives anyway, just winging it and pretending we have the answers when we are really just trying to figure it out as we go.

I would not describe it as lazy. I would just say we both have the freedom to decide who we are going to believe. Personally, I believe God when He tells us in His word that He created the heavens and the earth and all that was created in it. You have chosen to believe the created rather than the creator. Am I putting myself higher than you? Absolutely NOT! All I am saying is what is not of God is of the devil and his lies. The devil is the father of lies because he has lied from the beginning.

The bible IS of God and NOT of the devil.

I would blame man for that. Most of the theory of evolution as in our textbooks has been proven false, but it is still printed even though a large number of scientists today admit that the science behind it is flawed or faked. Example- "Haeckel's Embryos" used in most textbooks to show the similarities between different mammals (including humans), fish, birds, and reptiles at three different stages of development. The only problem with them is they were fakes. Haeckel redrew the embryo's to look similar. Even though the fraud was discovered, the drawings are still in some textbooks? The list is long.
