I have shown dogs for over 30 years, and we have used , chicken, liver, cookies, hotdogs, sausage meat, biscuits, store bought dog treats, and even had one dogs who went nuts for Peppermint Candies, we use whatever is the favorite thing, that holds the dogs attention. You see thats why its called Bait... the dog is motivated by the sight , taste, and sometimes smell of the object given. you train the dog to stand, or stack, and when done correctly, the dog is given its favorite treat. Some people even use the dogs favorite toys, that squeak, or use clicker training methods, to get the dog to stack and look attentive. And trust me... they All Get there treats as soon as they leave the show ring.you use bait in the ring to get the most attention from your dog- so they stand there and look Gorgeous for the judge to inspect them!

As everyone said it can vary from dog to dog - I know a greyhound that showed to a champianship with popcorn. And it is not ALWAYS food - the whippet dual champian Max showed for a squeak toy - but he is a dog that still (age 11) trys to claim every toy in the house & rarely is seen without one.

Pretty much different with every dog or handler.
Titled a ***** last year that baited best on mini marshmellows. Have one this year that loves swiss cheese. Son-in-law leaves the house when my daughter cooks up a batch of liver.
So it all depends.

Very often small pieces of liver but generally whatever the handler knows to be irresistible to the particular dog he/she has and a foodstuff which is easy for the dog to scent and so as to go its attention

There is no standard treat used....it can be dried liver, chicken, hot dog pieces, cheese..pretty much what ever "turns" the dog on.
