1) World religions, I think, would resist all proof to the very ends of their ability, then only awkwardly accepting it as true while shoehorning the discovery into their sacred texts that had eliminated the possibility for so many years previous. The doom of SETI is a wonderful example.
2) I think it would bring humanity closer together, because many would feel threatened and nothing brings people together like a common enemy.
3) America would only invade the planet if it had sizable reserves of oil or raw materials for producing drugs.
4) I, for one, would be thrilled. I feel as though we just can't be alone, both emotionally and logically. There is an equation called the Drake Equation that can be used to estimate the number of communicative cultures in the galaxy. However since most of the variables are uncertain no concrete figure exists, though most middle-of-the-road estimates tell us that there are a couple thousand such civilizations in space. The truth is out there.

"1. What to you think the offical church response would be? i.e. christianity, islam etc"
I believe they would say that Aliens are also created by God. Or possibly incorporate the aliens as part of their dogma such as angels or daemons.
"2. dou you think it would bring us closer together"
Yes, it would be very exciting times. If the aliens came in peace most of us would unite together for further understanding. If it were a war, then we would unite in defense.
"3. do you think america would invade them on the pretext of having weapons of mass destruction. "
I don't think the US is that dumb.
"4. would you be happy or firghtened?"
That really depends on their intentions. I would assume if they had such technologies as to explore the universe they would be peaceful. But then again, it might be only logic which dictates their actions in which case I would be pretty much scared.

1. These creatures need to learn about jeeesus.
2. No.
3. Depends on whether they had any sort of resources we could exploit. Though shipping costs would be much too expensive, Bush doesn't seem to mind spending a trillion for Iraq's oil.
4. Happy, if they were more advanced than us and were not believers in the Sky Daddy.

That seriously depends upon the church.
However, televangelist Pat Robertson has already announced that "aliens" are not simply people from another planet, but demons that God kicked out of Heaven. Which I guess means that Heaven is located somewhere on Jupiter.
And in case it doesn't show through, I am being a smart a##.

1. All of them would have been cheer up for GOD or ALLAH or BHAGBAN for his capability to establish more than one kingdom in this universe.
2. Closer !! - Chances are 50 - 50. If they are just like us - well we never like the next door neighbor.
3. America may do that. They are most famous to invade under the pretext of helping !!
4. Obviously happy and also frightened as well - fear of unknown.

The discovery extraterrestrial life should not be a religious problem. Why should it? A discovery of such life might very well be in the amoeba stage rather then a more highly intelligent being with a big green head. If the former then it would be anti-climatic for earthlings who were hoping for the latter species.

Definitely 3. The invasion would be an October surprise in order for Bush's successor to win in 2008, denying Americans their first African-American President.
