There's a large pipe in one corner of my office. This pipe is connects all the restrooms from each floor to the septic tank. Though I'm not so sure if it really comes from that pipe, an unpleasant smell lingers in my office no matter how try to get rid of it. Do you think it can make me sick? For more than a year now, my digestive system had been suffering from acid reflux, gastric ulcer and duodenitis. I never smoked and drank occasionally. Please share your opinion. thanks.

Yes, goodness yes. Our pike in the bathroom was leaking. It was leaking for awhile, but didn't know until I notice that the water was on the floor. I have to tear the wall down. Beside it fill with back mold. I don't know if its smell, or it course me to have a stress from seeing it, when I tried to clean up the mess, I got sick very bad. I heard that some mold will make you sick.

Ali First things first:
Odours may make you feel sick but not nescessarily make you sick

Regarding this gastric ulcer you speak of . This can be cured with antibiotics. gastic ulcers are not caused by stress, or acid stomachs at all It is caused by a bacteria that responds to an antibiotic. Consult with a gastroenterologist and get treated straight away and not suffer again.

If the pipe is in the office and is emitting an odour that is unpleasant call the Occupational Health and safety people and have them make an order for it to be fixed..

You definitely are at risk! The stink from human waste is harm full. Are you on the top floor ? Get a plummer to test either the vent or the air admittance valve, it my be caput ,which results in the air being sucked from your waste pipes, allowing the stink in. or maybe if its an open vented system the vent is too near your window or blocked. hope you can deal with soon . Also it could be the tank needs emptying.

for over a year now, you have been living with it, so sue them. I mean everyone you can think of. your boss, the owner of your company, the landlord, the people unstairs, the people downstairs, your coworkers, the mailman, your doc, the city,etc..and all the other people that comes into your space. you might not win but you will get it fixed.
