Limiting his water won't help! They do it from nervous submission. Think of it as anxiety to see it from their point of view.
If you've got some 'tame' mates, ask if they'll help re-train your dog in return for dinner!
All they have to do is come round one weekend, and keep going out and coming in again.
And in the meantime you go through a trianing routine with your dog to help him learn how you do want him to behave when someone knocks at the door.
Stay calm and confident. Don't act nervous or jumpy or he won't be able to take confidence from you!
Basically the routine consists of teaching him to sit on a mat when the doorbell goes. You reward him. You answer the door and take him outside on the lead for a pee, and greet the visitors there. Ask them to stand away from the door rather than loom in on him.
He can't help peeing, so make the greeting outside.
Eventually he can learn it just not that big a deal.

you have a very submissive dog. springer spaniels need A LOT of execise as they are hunting breeds. by working your dog you can build its confidence and build its self-esteem. i don't mean you need to take up hunting but extra long walks help and your dog could chase after a remote control car (i know it sounds a bit silly). also socializing your dog with other dogs and people at a dog park is a good idea. some friends and i formed our own we meet on a set day and time at a church and let our dogs rip and run. people assuming submissive dogs have been abused is a common missconception some may have been but definately not all.

Either let the dog out so he can greet the guests outside so that you don't get pee in the house. Also, if you pay no attention to the dog when the company arrives and wait til he calms down before you or the company pay attention to him.. that may help him learn to calm down, and not pee.

that is called "submissive peeing" if you know people are coming over, put the dog in another room,, or also ask that your guests give her a treat if she doesn';t pee when greeting them,,,, you could take and obedience class, which will help your dog with socialization.. she will get used to other people other dogs,, etc.. try taking her for leash walks in front of grocery stores, etc. any place where there are lots of people,,, it will help her gain confidence....... she sounds like a sweety

My schnauzer would pee a small amount of dops the first time he met someone. You need to look up information on this category. This is not unnaturral. As long as he is not raising his leg you need not to worry. It's as if he submitting to your guest.

take him outside before you answer the door. than if the people want to visit with him, make them visit outside, you don't want pee on the carpet. anyways let him\her get used to the person before letting him inside again. it is either he has to go, or he is scared of the person.

put him in another room when the door goes let your guests know what he does then let him in the room ask guests to ignore him for the first ten minutes. then they can calmly sit him beside them to say hello. then get him to lie down away from your guest
