I have a cold and have been coughing a lot. And when I cough, it hurts right there inbetween my ribs below my breasts. Is that okay? And is it normal to cough A LOT when you have a cold??

Rib cage muscles and you probably pulled them by coughing a lot. I had the same thing happen to me. Yes it is normal to cough a lot with a chest cold or bronchitis.

it happens when u somehow cut off blood flow from that part of ur body for a while. an example would be sitting on ur foot for a while or something. when u let it go, the blood rushes back in, and the rushing of blood creates that stinging feeling. omg, it hurts so bad, especially for me, since i have a habit of sitting on one foot on a chair in class and at lunch.

If it gets worse, go see a Dr. You may have pneumonia, or bronchitis. It may be that the chest muscle has pulled from the chest wall from all of your coughing, that will cause pain. Try hot compresses on your chest, or soak in a hot tub. If that doesnt help in a few days, I would definitly go see a DR. Good luck!

me and my mum have the same problem and we both have asthma. my mum feels pain on her middle chest when she coughs, i feel it on my left chest. the doctor said that it's some sort of muscle spasm (i actually tought it was a heart attack :p, because my mum and grandmum have it). if Voltaren is available in your country, try it. it works on me. and yes, it's normal to cough a lot when you have a cold. it comes in a package, the headache, running nose, fever and cough.

Called the sternum, the bottom of which is called the zyphoid process (sp?) Sounds like you just strained the muscles from coughing a lot. could be broncitis. do you smoke? stop. See a doctor.

its called the xiphoid process, its the bone right bellow the sternum... I don't know about your cough. I don't know haw much is a lot and i don't know how much is too much
