Get a gum shield from either your dentist or a sports shop, it will stop the problem and allow healing.

Once you bite your tongue real good it can cause swelling, making it an easy target in such a confined space for you to continue to bite it, creating a constant source of irritation that never allows healing to take place. Quite possibly your keeping it even more irritated by the use of a harsh mouthwash trying to disinfect the area when it really needs some soothing.

For the next few days use a very warm salt water rinse several times a day, the warmer the better it will feel. Also avoid the mouthwash for now, but do brush and floss to keep your teeth and gums clean. You might want to purchase a sports mouth guard from Wal Mart or a sporting goods store; you heat these and form fit them to your teeth much like a night guard just larger. They are a little bulky but will help you out in this situation rather than spending a couple of hundred on a professionally made night guard, unless you grind your teeth at night then you need to have one precision made by your dentist. You just want something for now, to keep your teeth off your tongue for a few nights to allow the swelling to go down giving the tongue time to heal. Try these things and you should see some relief the very next day. The mouth heals very quickly but only when it's not kept under constant trauma, such as being bit. Good luck and I hope I've been of some help!

Believe it or not..I developed the same problem. Huggz is right. You need a mouth guard. The dentist can make one. or you can get a mold-able one in a sports shop.
