Actually if any one had bothered to research they would have found that the rottweiler originally came from Rome. They were used as dogs of war by the conquering romans as they invaded northern europe which is how they landed in germany. They were originally used as cattle herding dogs, then war dogs, then guard dogs for carters. No one knows the exact origins of the breed except maybe they have neopolitan mastiff in their ancestry. They are good loving family dogs who are large enough to cause problems if they have dominance issues. They are very loyal, great to train and excell in any type of training ie agility, herding or just obedience. They have a bad rap due to their fierce appearance but if you said boo to one it would probably run and hide.

A rottweiler is in the working group. They are a large breed dog, that can sometimes have a bad reputation. But i have met So Many very sweet rottweilers. They are really just big lap dogs. But they can be protective over their property and their owners. And some people like having the protection around. I love rottweilers. Sometime in the furture i plan to own a rottweiler.

It is a guard dog breed. It will have heightened territorial and protective instincts. You just need to keep this in mind when socialising him, don't try to teach him to guard unless you are an expert, that is when you can get into trouble with aggression. He will instinctively protect the people of the household, which he considers members of the pack. Best wishes.

That got a bad reputation but when I was studying dogs it was the owners making them aggressive not the dog. Give him lots of love and you will have a kind and loyal dog for the rest of his life.

I believe, a crossbreed between a doberman/bull mastif, very temperamental and vicious, but can also be very loyal and loving.
Teach him love and obedience with patience and you could be pleasantly surprised.
