every morning when i wake up, my cat rushes to greet me and lavishes me with affection....i think it's sweet, but i'm curious as to why....he is far more affectionate when he sees me first thing in the morning than any other time.....i don't feed him in the morning (there is food out all the time), so i know it's not that....what's the deal?

Cats are nocturnal so while they are up all night, you are asleep. When you finally wake up, he probably misses you and wants to greet you.

My cat goes mad in the morning too. As soon as she hears the alarm clock go off she comes rushing in making these PRRRR? sounds and rubbing against my legs. She even follows me into the bathroom and demands to be petted while I'm trying to use the toilet. After she's been paid due attention, she curls up on the bed and goes to sleep. I guess the cats just want to re-connect when their people wake up.

Maybe your cat just knows it is time to wake up! I have one like that who will drive me mad. She will play with the blinds and basically stand on my head purring until I get up. I take advantage of these acts of generousity and milk them as long as the cat can stand it then I get up on my own terms!

Your cat missed you while you were sleeping. Some cats like to play at night, and have no one to be around or play with.

I'm glad you asked that question...mine does that too and I wasn't sure why. I guess everyone above is right....they must just miss us while we're asleep. How sweet is that!?!
