It is primarily circumstantial yes. They may not admit it, but it's mainly coincidence and their upbringing that set them on the religious paths they follow now.
If they had been born in parts of Africa they would be worshipping Jojo under the mountain, if they'd been born in the middle east they'd be muslims, if they were born in Norway centuries ago they would have worshipped Thor, and so on.

Perhaps it was my upbringing to be a Christian as a child, but when I was a teenager I experimented with other faiths. I have enormous respect for all faiths, do you know this story:
Seven blind men walked across a street in India when they came across a huge elephant. Each blind man encountered a different part of the elephant's body and couldn't recognise the animal. "I have walked into a wall!" said one. "I have found a piece of rope!" said another. "I have walked into a tree trunk!" said another. "I am standing under a low bridge!" "I have climbed up onto a hut!" And so on. They began arguing about it until a passerby explained to them that they were all touching a large elephant, but in different ways/places.
This is a story which apparently explains the 7 'main religions' of the world, and how they are all the same thing. The same God with different names.
I had a personal experience with Jesus so for me, He is my God and that is what I call him. I heard an interesting debate once about whether Mohammed and Moses were in fact the same person?

God has never named a true religion. But the religions have and they always pick themselves. If you can separate the beliefs from religion you will see that religion is a highly competitive business and the more followers, the larger the collection basket. Realize that the Christian religions tend to have greater number of Hospitals, Schools and Charities and that costs money.

Throughout the Bible the ‘character of mankind’ is reflected. For that reason we were expelled from the ‘Garden of Eden’ because we could not qualify for cohabitation with God.
God offered a compromise, “Believe in Jesus and in the Crucifixion and then, in spite of a malfunctioning character, it is possible to enjoy the presence of God.
The Cross is the beacon, the guiding light or the symbol of hope that stands at the gate to the ‘City of God’… therein lays the secret!!
The regeneration that follows aids us to see the world and life from a different perspective. Issues that led us to anger or frustration take on a different significance and we learn to live in peace with ourselves and with God.
Refute the Cross and Jesus and you are still standing, in bewilderment, at the door to the Garden of Eden trusting in your own righteousness. Making a mortal effort to attract the attention of God who already knows that it is beyond the ‘character of mankind’ and you continue to decay at the door to the Garden.
It is the Cross of Christ that identifies the God of Christians and I have a problem sharing Him because it suggests confusion, conflict and a lack of direction.

I believe that Jesus is the right way because following His teaching changed my life for the better. He made me a better person.
Some people compare God to a fictional character. Well, santa clause has never given me anything and I've never had an encounter with the tooth fairy. You can tell me all the scientific facts and figures you want, but it all PALES in comparison to what God did to me through Jesus, His Christ. A personal experience trumps everything else!!
I am confused at the "thumbs down" some have given my answer. It is my personal experience, not a political stand or opinon...how can you disagree with that? You do not know me, you do not know the changes God brought about in my life.
Praise be to GOD!!

I remember a Thai refuge girl telling me she was so happy about becoming Christian because she could go to Heaven. When I asked her what had she been taught before.. she said that in Buddism she would just become just smoke in the wind.
I am all for a faith that makes me somebody special and loved by God.That He reached down from Heaven to bring us His Love to give us dignity as a human beings.
Most philosophies are very vague they basically say if you don't scale the mountain to reach the god it will not come for you. Their gods are passive and unresponsive, they just dont' care.

I find that's the problem with the big religions: so many of the people who practice them do not want to admit that their view on God is 100% correct.

Why are these types of questions always directed at Christians. There are many other religions - Judaism, Buddhists, Muslims, etc, etc, etc. Pick on them for a change and ask them to justify their beliefs. Ask a Hindu why they worship cows. Doesn't matter, Tea girl, what Christians do or don't do. Your question is why does YOUR religion think it's the right one, which AGAIN should be directed at other religions, but thank you for your idiotic assessment of my answer.

I believe in Jesus Christ because I have experienced Him in my heart. He is real. He set me free when my life was a mess. I don't need logical arguments since an experience of God says it all. God does not favor anybody. He is the same to all irrespective of religion. All you need is sincerity of heart.
