In answer to your question, it would have been easier had you said what Regiment your Dad was in as well as give his name....?

My Dad served in Burma and is one of the few reamaining holders of the Burma Star alive today.

He was in the R.E.M.E. and is a Chelsea Pensioner today.

Just spoke to Dad - it was like pulling teeth to get him to talk about his Burma experiences.. same for most ex-squaddies on the subject of any war - anyway he said the question should not be "Which regiments...." as it's Battallions that went to Burma.
A Regiment consisted of about 15 Regiments as everyone was called up. It was the biggest army ever controlled by a British General - ie General Slim - well over 1 MILLION soldiers - mainly Indians it has to be said... Divisions were made up of 3 Brigades, and Brigades were of 3 Regiments which consisted of many supporting troops - Welsh Regiments, Berkshire Regiment, DLI - Durham Light Infantry along with many others.
The war ended 12 months after my Dad arrived in Burma. Other than that, he wouldn't discuss Burma.
