Mount Rushmore is a "finished" or "completed" work and should not be tampered with... not even to add John F. Kennedy, who really was a president!
I'm all for some monument being created for Dr. King, flawed though he was, but vehemently oppose tampering with an existing monument.

A different monument in a different place might be the ticket. Ever heard of Stone Mountain in Georgia? That monument was dedicated to heroes on the confederate side of the Civil War. Construction began in the 1920's and was completed in the '70's. Now, however, such an effort might be cost prohibitive and the grandeur reduced to a more affordable scale. Finding a site could be a problem as well, because environmental regulations are more detailed now than they were when the other 2 monuments were constructed.
That said, a monument that reflects the greatness and diversity of America's leaders is a great idea.
As to the comment that MLK was a flawed individual, who isn't? Of the 4 leaders depicted on Rushmore, I'm sure each has a skeleton or two in their respective closets.

Thank you for the thought, Dr. King's birthday as a national holiday was a hard fight. The "establishment" in America will never allow the Mount to be changed to reflect Dr. King.
America can be a very backward thinking nation. The Confederate flag still flies here and the KK Klowns still ride. There are still groups in this nation who hate the very ideals that Dr King stood for. Clearly, Dr. King's ideals are not embraced by the entirety of the nation yet.
Incidentally, most large cities, both northern and southern, have streets named for this martyr.
Now then with a holiday and a number of MLK Blvds, that's about all that some Americans can stand. I count it a blessing that's been done. By the way, I would like to see the legacy of Mrs. King celebrated also. Very few men stand alone - certainly Dr. King didn't.

don't you think that might be odd with the faces of presidents on the carving and then the face of an unfaithful husband? Yeah, I don't think we should ever change Mt. Rushmore. I'm pretty sure that any educated person in the states would agree not to change a historical national monument.

MLK's message was a good one, but history will judge him quite harshly after 2027 when the FBI surveillance tapes on King will be 'unsealed' and his true character will be revealed.
