Horrible awful dogs. My daughter was mauled by her fathers one, terrible scars it left. Nasty pieces of work.

I have had a male Jack Russel Terrier for almost two years now. At first he destroyed everything that came into his path, from skirting boards to cushion flooring in the kitchen. He is like an escape artist when it comes to getting out of the garden and I he learnt from an early age to open doors. I work at a full time job so he is on his own for up to eight hours a day so I fitted a small hook and eye type lock to the kitchen door, I make sure he has plenty of fresh water to last him through the day and plenty of toys to keep him occupied. He goes for a good run when I come home. I have never witnessed any spitefulness, he has almost stopped destroying the house. He is one of the most loving and loyal dogs I have ever had and I wouldn't be with out him. My friends eight year old comes around a couple times a week and the dog and him are inseparable. They make marvellous pets. It's owners that make their pets spiteful.

Jack Russell Terriers are bold, tenacious, courageous dogs that are specifically bred for hunting vermin. They are energetic and high spirited and, as typical terriers, not easily dissuaded from doing what they want to do - they don't take kindly to being bullied.
A well-bred Jack Russell will not turn tail and run when he is challenged by a rat, fox or badger so an owner shouting and wagging a finger in front of his face is not likely to put him off either.
They need firm but kind, non-confrontational training and like any other well-trained and properly cared for dog make excellent companions.
Spite is ill will or malice towards another person.
I have never ever come across any dog of any breed who has exhibited this human characteristic.
If you are thinking about acquiring a dog and you are of the opinion that they can deliberately and maliciously plot against you then, frankly, I think you have so little knowledge and understanding of dogs that you should seriously reconsider.

Jack Russels CAN make good pets. They are very high energy dogs, a lot of people get a jack russel puppy because it is SOO cute, but they didn't do any research, and later on realize that they are just too hyper. If you are thinking about getting a jack russel you should do lots of research on the breed, and meet a few jack russels. When they are well trained and get the exercise they need to are very nice dogs. But i see too many people who get them as a lap dog, and it just doesn't work. They are working dogs and NEED lots of exercise.

They can do if they are well trained and given lots of exercise. If you get a male he must be neutered as entire male's tend to be quite aggressive to other male dogs despite their small size.
Both sexes can be dominant and snappy if not well trained and socialised from an early age so like most dogs they benefit from puppy training classes
Do not make the common mistake of getting 1 expecting a lap dog though. They are terriers not toy dogs and have a huge amount of energy and so need lots of walks-much more than a toy breed of the same size.If they are not given enough exercise they can be destructive and aggressive

I have two jack russles. They are great dogs but are very fiesty and never sit still. They have tons of energy and need constant attention. My dog also has a strong spirit and will snarl if he is scolded too much. My ***** will chew everything she can get her teeth into so I have to make sure she always has enough chew toys. I love them but they do need a LOT of attention.

Unfortunately, Jack Russells ARE spiteful and jealous dogs. I had a male and female that got on very well until they had a son and we kept him as well. When he grew up it was impossible to put the two males together at all. They also do not like other dogs or cats. Maybe one Jack Russell on it's own, should be okay if you give him the attention they so badly desire.

I've heard that they're very demanding and hard to train..and while I think they're really cute, I wouldn't have one for those reasons. And I definitely wouldn't get one if I didn't have dog experience...and I get the feeling you don't. There's other small dogs that are much easier, I would think.

Like any dog, with good training and socilising,jr's will make great pets. They are feisty by nature and some males have a dominant streak but with proper training this can be trained out of them to a degree.I have a cross jr and she is brilliant,a very good watchdog but she can be hard to manage at times,i wouldn't be with out her though.
