Yep. Steven Soderbergh was nominated for Best Director in 2000 for both Erin Brockovich and Traffic. He "is the first director since 1938 -- and only the third in history -- to win two best director nominations in the same year." (see link)

There is no limit to how many nominations someone may receive in a category in the same year.

i imagine they are yet to get nominated for the more beneficial of both. when it comes to Kate Winslet, i imagine it grow to be for her body of work for that 3 hundred and sixty 5 days, besides the undeniable fact that the most suitable glory went to her performance in the Reader. the problem will be a splitting of the votes probably allowing some different person to win. It has got here about two times in the director type: Michael Curtiz for Angels with dirty Faces and four Daughters in 1938. Steven Soderbergh for Erin Brockovich and site visitors in 2000.

Of course they can be nominated twice in the same category or in two different categories. Just extremely rare, not even sure it has ever happened. That would be an interesting followup question.
