The Oxford Dictionary defines amen as “used to express solemn ratification” and define its origin (etymology) as ancient Hebrew “amen”. Modern Christians often just say the word means “peace”.
Yet Amen or Amun is in fact one of the oldest Gods of the Egyptians- Amen kem-atef = The Serpent God whose Temple at Thebes was arguable the largest Temple in ancient history. So why do Christians worship “Amen”-the Serpent God of Egypt?

FYI numerous "other" definitions of Amen
===============================
Yes, one of the frequent ways to by-pass this question is to quote other "meanings" for Amen like "so be it". But the origin of the word as the supreme "hidden" god of Egypt also known as Amen-Re (or Ra) is unquestionable. So why?

God is real. Religion =division. Man is flawed and constantly attempting to validate one's theory. Fighting over who's right has cast us into the pits of fire time and time again. The Most High told us not to lean onto our own understanding. We instinctively go against the grain. I believe in the Messiah, now someone who doesn't know Him may feel otherwise. The old testament was an ongoing war amongst people who were in some way all related. Egyptians, Ethiopians, Palestinians or Israel,Babylon and so on. The new testament was The Lord saying hold up, stop! No need to feud over who's right and who's wrong because neither is right. We truly fight to this day over The Lord instead of seeking The Lord. The powers that be believe in Gnosticism. D.C, The Crown of London and the Vatican each have obelisks, don't pay taxes, control Earth's currency and fly there own flag. The Vatican's obelisk came straight from Egypt. Who else worships a phallus? Look it up and seek the Truth. Just be ready when it's time if you know what I mean

Well, both Hebrew and Egyptian lack characters for vowels so much of our attempts at offering pronunciation for old words is just guesswork. You are falling into an old linguistic trap that attempts to explain the root of words by relating them to other words that have no relationship or being "logical". For example, "Did you know that we call them leaders because in medieval times the people in charge of armies were required to wear boots with lead soles as penance?"
There are only so many sounds in language and there are thousands of overlapping words between languages.

You may be accurate if you want to pull word technicality hairs; but Amen is as many answerers wrote in: so be it.
I was taught it means "I agree." Similar.
So be it.

If your question is "bypassed", its because it deserves to be "bypassed". Who cares WHAT the word meant a couple of thousand years ago. TODAY it means: SO BE IT! Nothing more, Nothing less. BY the way, I wonder what YOUR NAME meant a couple of thousand years ago?....theBerean

It's spelled and pronounced differently. The prayer ending is designed to be a confirmer (let it be so) or something like that and to check everyone is still awake!.... but thanks for your interesting question!
