The eustation tubes connect the oropharynx with the middle ear. If you blow your nose hard, air may go up the eustation tubes, (which is against the normal direction of flow), but don't worry; this discomfort is harmless. It takes a lot more than that to rupture an eardrum.

Your ears, nose and throat are all connected. When you blow your nose really hard, you push snot into your ears and sinuses. This is not a good thing; it hurts.

You're putting too good of a seal on your nose and the pressure in your sinuses is popping your eardrums. You could do some serious damage. Leave a little more space (a gap) between your nose and the tissue.

You should never blow that hard or hold your nose so tight when blowing. You can actually rupture an eardrum and do damage.
