RAMADI, Iraq (AP) — He was 5 when he first fired an M-16, his father holding him to brace against the recoil. At 17 he enlisted in the Marine Corps, spurred by the memory of Sept. 11.
Now, 21-year-old Galen Wilson has 20 confirmed kills in four months in Iraq — and another 40 shots that probably killed insurgents. One afternoon the lance corporal downed a man hauling a grenade launcher 5½ football fields away.

Some people, before they're about to kill someone, they think that — 'Hey, I'm about to kill someone.' That thought doesn't occur to me. It may sound cold, but they're just a target. Afterward, it's real. You think, 'Hey, I just killed someone,'" says Wilson.
Insurgents "have killed good Marines I've served with. That's how I sleep at night," he says. "Though I've killed over 20 people, how many lives would those 20 people have taken?"
Wilson plans to leave the Marines after his contract expires next year and is thinking of joining a SWAT Team in Florida — possibly as a sniper.

He is a brave young man who has fought for you and me, having said that; He is a real hero and I honor him and his courage. If I could tell him one thing, I would tell him "thank you".

I think this young man is doing a wonderful Job and i will be cheering for him when he gets to 40 he should be there for about one year and at 20 in 4 months he should have 60 by time he gets home. i hope he does. the people he is killing are trying to kill him. i believe it is not a sin to kill to protect your self or your brothers. the Alkaid's believes they should kill all who do not believe as they do and i feel that we should kill all that want to kill us. not one of you people that have posted before me that have replied negative to this young man deserve the rights he is over there fighting to defend. This is the USA and we protect ourselves and our brothers and sisters you have the right to say what ever the hell you want to say but you also have the right to leave if you don't like the way we do things here get out we don't need you and we don't want you. Hoo Raw young man gods speed on your mission and when ever you get home email me and i shell buy you a beer.

If there were more men like this in our forces, perhaps the alkaida would think twice about sending terrorists to murder more American citizens. The born-again-fundamentalists, and the pacifists who sit home in safety and vilify this young Marine
would do well to remember that the U.S. didn't ask to have 2,000
or more innocent civilians murdered on U.S. soil for no reason.
There is no sin in killing during a war! The commandment says'
"Thou shalt not commit murder". Wishful thinking and pretty
rhetoric won't defend America or its citizenry. That unfortunately
is left up to our young men and women in the armed forces.
They deserve our support and respect, not smart-assed comments about how they're going to go to hell or ignorant judgement by people who have no idea what they're talking about, and are too full of themselves to even consider volunteering to endanger themselves!

I know its wrong to take a life.... but I have to think about of those 20 people. How many innocent lives have or would have those 20 have taken? I mean we hear about our troops getting killed. How about those children who haven't even had anything to do with the war? Or those men who will never get to see their moms & dads, wives & children? So yeah, I think Wilson did the right thing even if morally its not right.... he did it for the greater good.

Quite an impressive talley! I have no sympathy for the insurgents, its a kill or be killed world in Iraq. And by killing those 20 who knows how many road side or market bombs have been prevented. That is 20 less IED's killing our troops. Its pretty ******* disgusting to see people who stand behind the insurgents rather than the U.S.
...Wayne youre an idiot.

I think that is his job,war isnt a pretty thing it's kill or be killed. If anything I feel bad for him, he will have to deal with the emotional issues that killing many people will bring to him throughout his life.

I am not sure the point you are trying to make. My uncle landed on D-Day 1944. He told me what you saw in the movie, "Saving Private Ryan" was extremely accurate. He killed many men. During the Vietnam War I told him I would not go. He said he supported me. There has been too much killing. He is sad that our country still sends our children to die in Iraq.

Sounds like he is doing his duty. Those insurgents are killers, and the only way to stop them is to eliminate them. What he said; "Think how many people they would have killed".

When he gets to 33 confirmed then he will have the same record as my uncle's record from Vietnam as a sniper.
Way to go Marine!
Keep up the good work!

I thank God that there are people like him who are willing to fight and kill and put their lives on the line for the good of our country, and to protect the rights and freedoms I hold to and cherish. He is certainly a much stronger man than I.
