It won't stop them from scratching the sofa or climbing curtains unfortunately. (My 4 housebound cats who have been desexed from the word go prove that). However, there are things you can do to deter them.
Provide a scratchy pole for them as near as practicable to the sofa or curtains.
Using double sided tape on furniture they habitually scratch or climb at can be a useful deterrent.
Use a squirty bottle of water as a reinforcement when they misbehave- they will remember!
Make sure they have plenty to do and places to scratch and climb. My cats have access to an outdoor pergola - an outdoor run of any type can help a lot!
TY for having indoor cats - if more of us had our cats indoors then there would be less people complaining about cats running wild and breeding outside!
Getting them desexed will help you in lots of ways - no spraying, and it will settle them down somewhat.
Good luck.

I had to laugh when I read that question. I am not a vet by any means, but no - "desexing" your cats will not stop them from scratching the sofa or climbing up the curtains.
You do have choices to help prevent or stop that.
The first is buy them a scratching post and train them to use it. You could put double sided tape on the furniture or use a repellent spray to help minimize the damage to your furniture.
You could also look into capping your cats claws. One such item is SoftPaws. I haven't used them yet, but I did just order my first kit. I have a problem with the clawing as well.
The most dramatic and least humane option is declawing. I don't recommend it - but it is a personal choice.
Good Luck!

It may mellow them out a bit but if they are already 3 years old and still behaving like this desexing them is not the answer to this problem although it is still a very good idea. This sounds like a behavioral problem that you will need to attend to separately. They have products in the pet section at stores called Indoor No. You can spray this product on porous services to deter cats from that area. I sprayed it on the bottom of my new sofa to keep my cats from scratching it cause they had scratched the old one to pieces. Well, I had to spray it on there everyday like the product said but then after awhile they learned not to do it and now I no longer have that problem. Good luck with your kitties.

Cats could be neutered everywhere from 3-6 months. Your vet will do it as quickly as the testicles have completely descended. I continually neuter my cats as youthful as achieveable (one at 3.5 months, the different at 4.5 months) via fact they seem to stay greater like kittens. do no longer look ahead to him to spray!!!!! as quickly as this behaviour is discovered, that's just about impossible to quit. And cat spray reeks. in the journey that your vet won't neuter him, take the cat to a various vet for a 2nd opinion. Oh, and he's not in warmth - he's basically too youthful to have any thoughts in direction of intercourse. it fairly is the finished factor to neutering him now. he's probable basically enjoying. considered one of my cats, who's 4 now, wanders around with a fleece mouse in his mouth and cries for a jiffy each and every evening, approximately 10 minutes after i circulate to mattress. He does this each and every now and then throughout the day, strolling right into a room yowling with this faux mouse, drops it, and he's finished.

No this will only help them not have kitties, It sound like your babies are bored, usually by three years of age they settle down, I do know that if you fix them now they will get lazy and fat ,it may help them ,because they won't be so active ; mostly it depends on your kitties personality Have fun ,and good luck ! I find a squirt bottle of water works great for kitties who misbehave

A better way would be to take them out in a boat and drop them overboard by the time they get back they will have stopped their scratching and climbing up the curtains.
