I know Jesus Christ died for our sins on the cross, but I am wondering what is dying like? Was Jesus' temporary separation from God the Father, carrying the weight of all our sins, the basic pain of dying, and the ressurection what made his death significant? Am I missing anything?

When Adam sinned, he ended up, along with all his offspring, a slave to Satan, sin, and death.

Jesus came to destroy Satan's power over mankind.

Satan had no authority to take the life of any innocent man, let alone Jesus, the only Son of God, so when Jesus permitted Satan and his minions to crucify him, Satan was judged for his crime, stripped of all that he had earlier gained from Adam's fall, and left powerless.

Jesus was resurrected, awarded all that Satan had swindled from Adam (and much, much more), and was appointed the new head of all mankind.

With Jesus as the head of mankind, God is now more than willing to forgive.

Now, anyone who swears faithful allegiance to Christ, through baptism, can have their sins forgiven, and hopefully be "saved".

It's that simple.

Dear needhelp,

Don't think i can answer the part of your question concerning what dying is like- since that's not something i've personally experienced. But i think we know the heaviness of sin (of knowing that you did something to hurt someone (whether it was God or another person). For Jesus' he carried the weight of that pain (and remember that Jesus is innocent and without sin). Jesus who is part of the Trinity had to experience what it would be like to be separated from God. That is something that we can't comprehend. Because even though there are people on this earth who don't acknowledge and may even curse God the truth is He still is a part of this universe (everyday He shows his kindness and grace- the Bible tells us in Luke 6:36 even to those who are evil and unthankful). i don't think we can imagine what it would be like to be without God.

What makes his resurrection significant is one- it proves his power over death (and the promise for those who believe in Him is that he has power over sin and death). Because he sacrificed himself for sin, we can die to sin, and because he rose and lives, we live.

Hope that helps. Kindly,

Nickster

The significance was the incarnation and the resurrection, which united human nature to Deity. In western Christianity the emphasis is on Christ's sacrificial atonement. In Eastern Christianity the emphasis is on the incarnation and resurrection, with no recognition of the sacrificial atonement whatsoever.

He's like a rockstar. He died at the peak of his career. There were people that did not like him and decided to take him out.
