If you are really serious and want to fight for money and be good at it then you have a long road ahead of you and I would suggest taking lessons in both boxing and wrestling or mauy tai and jiu jitsu, the best fighters are guys that are masters at these base martial arts if you can beat great boxers and beat great wrestlers then when you step into the cage you are going to be able to dominate someone. Also before you step into the cage you need to practice with someone that is a black belt in jui jitsu and learn how to defend ALL of his submissions.

Learn how to strike cause everything is step up via good striking. You can try taking boxing classes at your local gym but most of those classes are more for cardio & less for technique. I would honestly start out taking Muay Thia kickboxing classes outside of the gym for 2 days a week for a few months until you get the basics of striking down. Then start training BJJ, but remember this. MMA isn't about muscle bulk but on based on speed, leverage, & power. I say this to prevent you from buling up too much to the point that you could punch a hole through a man's chest but by the time you get off that punch you're opponent would've hit you with 5 or 6 combo punches that'll have you seeing stars.
