At present the weather is Istanbul is sunny and fairly mild for winter. Check out the five-day forecasts for the week you are visiting. Very likely a jacket, scarf, hat and gloves will be all you need -- bring an umbrella, too. Souvenirs are everywhere, so shop around a lot before you buy. You can find evil eyes in a variety of settings, mini-carpets, bookmarks, lokum (Turkish delight), coin purses aand many other things for a dollar or less - many items sell for one YTL (new turkish lira). It's better than the Dollar Store!
If you are coming to Sultanahmet, feel free to contact me.

What I would do is let them carry the money that they have saved, and that you and other family has given them for the trip. However, honestly I would expect for you to pay for some of their souvenirs. Disney is EXPENSIVE and you can easily spend all of the money they have saved up in one day, and not on a lot of things. I would say to let them pick out a small trinket from each park you go into, and then throughout their trip they can see big things they might want. Have them write it down or take a picture of it, then on your last day there let them decide. If you are staying in a Disney hotel, you can call the shop that it was at and have it delivered to your room (so be sure to keep the park and shop name as well). Have a great trip!

It is still fairly cold.
Many people like carpets, way cheaper here than in the states. There are a lot of souvenirs to buy, just look around when you are here. Things are much cheaper compared to the states. My best vacation here was on one of the yachts going up the coast for one week and staying overnight in private bays. Go to www.sinbadyachting.com You can work directly with them instead of going thru an agency, and they speak great English, and will work with you on the prices. Good luck!
