by "smart" i am referring to academically smart, i.e. great at maths and science.
by "really smart" i am referring to the people who get or almost get dux in a big school or get high distinction in a hard uni course.
i know a lot of really smart guys who are quite popular among girls.
but i don't know of any really smart girl that guys like, even if they are really nice and fairly good looking.
now why is this? just curious

i think of smartness as street-smartness, and intelligence as academic excellence. it makes it easier to distinguish between the two. and, of course, wisdom is another thing entirely.
i think that intelligent guys are generally popular not for the intelligence itself, but for what it could mean (money, good job, ...) Many nerdy guys are now in successful careers, in IT and elsewhere.
that could explain why some guys don't like intelligent girls. many times men like to be dominant, and they don't like competition from their significant other.
but not all men are like that. i happen to love an exceptionally intelligent girl. so don't think of it in terms of popularity.

A lot of guys are intimidated by really smart women. Worry not, however, as there are many guys who love smart women. Seek out the smart guys, they're looking for peers.

Hmm...why don't you do a research, you geek? Hey, I don't mean to offend you 'cause I'm with one myself. Well, maybe there's a possibility that the girls at your school happen to be timid about talking to the opposite sex. I don't know. I ain't wise to tell you the answer. Good Luck!

simple math a macho guy does not want agirl hint hint to out do him ,so in return he go for the waitress type .

Guys want to feel more intelligent and superior than her.
He is not trying to push you down but he does not want to feel stupid.
