Yes. Muffins usually have less sugar than cake mix. If you put cake mix in muffin tins, you end up with cupcakes. Which is not such a bad thing either.

Muffins are more moist than cakes, so I'd say no. Every muffin I make has oil or something along the same lines.

if you like the taste of cake mix, sure you can just bake in muffin pans.. i do it all the time.

Yes but usually the cooking time will be a lot quicker since more heat will penetrate the areas of the muffin pan, so make sure you cook them at a shorter time and watch them often to make sure they don't burn
