Arab refers to one of the Semitic people inhabiting Arabia and neighbouring countries. These days, refers more to anyone whose native language is Arabic.
c.1391 (Arabiens), from Old French Arabe, from Latin Arabs (acc. Arabem), from Greek Araps (gen. Arabos), from Arabic 'arab, indigenous name of the people, perhaps literally "inhabitant of the desert" (related to Hebrew arabha "desert").
