I'll describe my favorite wine seller who has been the person I go to whenever I want a special wine. He has tasted a lot of wine, and I have learned that his palate is similar to mine. When he gives me a recommendation I know it comes from a knowledge of what is currently good, and he doesn't always pick out the most expensive one. He has never steered me wrong. That means that he does his homework and knows the wines he carries very well. He describes the wine to me in real-person terms and not in the "jargon" of some wine writers. He is calm and pleasant and offers to help when I look confused or look as though I need help deciding but leaves me alone when he sees I am browsing. He seems to like what he does. That comes over as a real enjoyment of wine and the adventure of new tastes.

someone who's an experienced wine taster and knows some good history.. and knows what wine goes best with what meal :) and of course, someone friendly.

somebody who is friendly and knowledgeable about wines. i am more receptive to somebody who comes up to me and asks if they can help me with finding something, or with somebody who approaches me and makes a recommendation about a great wine.

someone who is mature and professional looking, has a very good and insightful knowledge of wine and someone who is laid back and can strike a conversation without harrassing you.
