I haf dyed my hair countless times including those DIY hair dye. U do not need to wash ur hair before u dye unless u feel uneasy abt it. If u do wash then dry it.Dye after an hr later. Conditioning after the dye is important to prevent damage from the chemical in the hair dye. N do a hair mask weekly will helps ur hair to be in their best condition. =)

Unless you hair is extremely dirty, you shouldn't wash it. Mainly because the chemicals in the dye can damage you hair more if it is dry and since washing your hair strips it of it's natural oils, it's not a good idea. It should be okay to wash a day or so before, but I wouldn't recommend doing it on the day you are going to dye your hair.

Your hair doesn't need to be just washed in fact its better if its not. Us hairdressers will tell you to come to us to get your hair dyed but its actually just as good done at home ! Make sure to have someone to help you though so they can see if you have missed anywhere and also remember to do a test patch first by cutting off a small piece of hair from the back of your head and cover with dye leave on for desired time rinse off and check colour. Alter time to desired colour preference. Good luck !!!

If you read the package, at least most will say that the hair shouldn't have been washed in the last 24 hours. I've found that newly washed hair doesn't take the color very well, if at all. Put the color in your dirty hair.

As long as its not very oily, you dont have to wash your hair before dying it. In fact if you wash your hair will be very dry and the chemicals will penetrate through very fast and damage the hair to some extent.

if your hair doesn't have heavy product build up that is greasy or waxy then you can apply to unwashed hair ( natural oils on scalp help protect it)
if the hair is very solied or has alot of product then it is ok to lightly shampoo the hair and do not sensitize the scalp. then towel dry gently or blowdry with cool blowdryer before applying haircolor
some waxes, pomades, silicone and fiber products can prevent tints from penetrating evenly, if at all

As long as your hair isn't extremely dirty, you should be fine. After wards, you should condition your hair and keep it conditioned and moisturized. Dyeing your hair can make it brittle and more susceptible to damage.

Well most store bought products tell you to use hair that is not freshly washed. My advice, have it done in a salon. It is actually cheaper in the long run due to in-home mistakes.

My friend is my hairdresser and she says not to wash it just before you have it dyed as it might sting your scalp. That's the only reason they say not to wash it before hand. So, if it's really, embarassingly dirty, then wash it. The stinging really isn't that bad.
