I agree with you. Just some "condition" that the drug companies make millions off of. A bunch of hooey with me! My husband was diagnosed with this "problem". And guess what? He takes no meds and is fine!

ADHD is a real condition. It is vastly overdiagnosed and medications are ridiculously overprescribed, but the condition does exist. One of my close friends has such a severe case (of ADD actually, not ADHD) that in the middle of conversations, they will have to sit there and collect their thoughts, almost forcefully so, until they can say what they want to say. The look of intense concentration on this person's face is such that there's no way that I can disbelieve in the disease.
Do teachers and parents use ADHD as an excuse for rowdy children, so that they don't have to take responsibility for raising them? Yes, this does happen with some frequency. In elementary school, I was the only kid in my class that wasn't on Ritalin. They made fun of me for it.
Are pharmaceutical companies conspiring to sell more medication? Always. Regardless of the condition, if they can stir up fear to sell drugs, they will. You're talking about one of the most lucrative industries in the country.
However, just because these problems exist doesn't mean that you can turn your back on people who do have sincere problems with paying attention, collecting their thoughts, and generally focusing on anything. And no, medication alone isn't the only answer, but disavowing that there is a problem could be even more damaging to the situation than just throwing pills at it and hoping that it will go away. Neither response is going to do the trick. It takes discretion in identifying who genuinely does have it and hard work on behalf of both the ADHD sufferer and the people around him or her, in addition to whatever medicines may be needed.

That's a great opinion, I mean we shouldn't believe anything new that's discovered. That hole in the ozone, where was that ten years ago, must be made up. Dyslexia? No one when my parents were young had dyslexia, that's just some doctor mumbo jumbo to make stupid kids feel better, same with Autism.
Fear tactics are great too, I mean fear is the best way to run everything, lets just scare people into believing things cause then the world we truly be great.
While you like to blame parents for using ADHD as an excuse for their bad parenting, I like to blame parents for creating a bubble which allows their children to be brought up ignorant to new ideas.
I have ADHD, my parents were wonderful.

ADHD isn't a superstition, and it wasn't invented by people, just like we haven't "invented" AIDS, famine or global warming.

Do some families abuse the term "ADHD" ? Most certainly, it has probably become the new "depression", another popular word especially in the US. A parent who is a poor educator to his/her children might end up excusing their behaviour by saying they have ADHD, but that does not mean that the disorder doesn't exist, when in fact it is very real.

But stating an opinion without doing even the smallest effort to read up on the subject, is not only a proof of hypocrisy, but also shows disrespect to professionals and families that work together on helping individuals who have to cope with this disorder on a daily basis.

Well you are wrong. You have no idea until you are the caregiver of child who has it. This little boy is disciplined and punished, but he cannot concentrate, is combative, abusive, and has a smart mouth and extremely argumentive because he thinks he knows it all. Children that have ADHD or ADD usually have other complusive obsessive and repetative behavior problems as well. His brother is having to go to therapy because of the continued abuse he received from the brother who has the ADHD. Since he has been put on medication, he is not continually hitting us. He is very intelligent and has been tested by a psychiatrist. He is extremely smart, but he is unable to do his work at school because of his problems. So do not be so quick to judge unless you have been in the combat zone that some of us are in.

ADHD does exist - there is data that it is a genetic difficulty. besides the undeniable fact that i imagine dissimilar people are labelled as having ADHD in order that as that their undesirable behaviour has a proof and to furnish them an excuse. It has also been shown that undesirable parenting is the important reason behind ADHD - in different words maximum youngsters with ADHD basically don't understand the thanks to act wisely. So in the adventure that your newborn has ADHD, perhaps you need to study your parenting concepts...

i suppose people with adhd. but i don't. i think kids and people in general work and think and learn in different ways and they need to figure out how to work with what they got. drugs aren't a solution they're a cover up (let alone the psychological impact telling your child they're brain is messed up or that they can get away what ever if they blame adhd). but we're a medicate world now where the quick fix is better.
and bah to this, it just wasn't discovered junk. if it was always around then people have been dealing with it. otherwise its the way they're being raised, but shh we wouldn't want parents to get angry about having their parental skills questioned.
take some freaking time and learn how to get your kid to function in the real world so he/she doesn't have to pay for drugs for the rest of their life.

Do you believe in Alzheimer's? That didn't exist until the eighties and now all the old farts are wanting meds and excusing their actions because of it.

Just because something didn't have a name before doesn't mean it didn't exist.
Be grateful you do not have the challenging task for raising a child who has ADHD and don't be too quick to judge those who do.

There are a battery of tests physicians give individuals before they are actually diagnosed with ADHD. It has been researched and proven. Putting children in fear is improper child rearing. Maybe if they would have found ADHD as a diagnosis decades ago we could have helped more people.

Try having a child with it once and then ask about ADHD! Why in the hell do you care anyway, why don't you stick to a subject you understand like nail polish and lipstick.
