Especially, OTHER THAN wanting to get to know her better for the purpose of a potential girlfriend?

Prescheduled, not an on-the-fly invitation.
I just want to understand guys better :)

It's unlikely but possible that I might invite someone I just consider a friend out to coffee, just to chat or because I feel grateful for something she did.

And, 'anonymous', good answer! : )

I would ask a girl to a coffee joint, like you said to talk over a cup of coffee. Get to know each other better in a more relaxed enviroment than if it was over dinner. Not so serious, it's just coffee, can't really screw up. Hell, alot of things come to mind while drinking coffee. To me anyways. Hell, some guys like myself, just like to talk over coffee every now and then. Morning or evening. Sometimes it is to "feel out" a potential girlfriend or sometimes just to make a new friend. Good luck.Bye.

hmm I'm guessing you had coffee with a guy and he doesn't seem to be interested in you?

It's pretty much the only reason, although it's a perfect way of getting to know the girl. Therefore, if the guy decides the girl isn't what he is after, she won't become his girlfriend. Hope that makes sense.

Coffee? Are you sure he's not gay? I would never ask a girl out for coffee. Drinks/dinner or a movie maybe, but definitely not coffee. I would worry that asking a girl out for coffee wouldn't be clear enough, unless of course she was just a pal.

Well, I have done this just because I wanted someone to talk to and I found the woman interesting. But usually, it was because I was checking her out to decide if I wanted to date her, yes.

The former almost always happens with friends where we are "past" the whole "are we or aren't we dating" stage.

You got tired of drinking coffee alone and needed a little company to enjoy a nice cup of coffee Nothing wrong in that?

If it's not to know you then it's to get info on one of your girlfriends. Men aren't complex...happy, sad, hungry, horny...that's it! The first two are caused by getting or not getting the second two.
