Don't confuse assertive with aggressive. We are so well armed that if we were aggressive ...

When confronted by a threat, we eliminate it. That is why so many other countries have depended on us to save them from threats like Hitler, Tojo, Communist Empire, etc. That is why the UN depends on us for muscle when it needs to solve a problem like Saddam sending tanks into Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.

I think it has something to do with the straight-talking, straight-shooting cowboy tradition. We have little use for high-falootin' time wastin' talk when action is necessary.

Americans are aggressive and violent only when the opposition is weak. The general way of bullies. They attack and invade Iraq after it was under sanctions for a long time. They attack from far away. Some one bombed them on 911. The alleged mastermind of that act is still out there somewhere. Americans cant do a thing about it.
They invaded Iraq saying WMDs. But when DPRK actually test nukes americans look the other way. Not confident enough to go to war there. Then they cry foul and look for sanctions with the help of its traditional pim*ing allies. Or wont touch Iran. They want sanctions first. They have invaded a small country called greneda some time back , I think. Country with nothing much of a defence.
So much for aggression. Violent? may be. There kids go to school to shoot a few buddies or teachers.

That is a stereotype. Not all Americans are violent. It's like saying that All Middle-Eastern people are terrorists. They are not. So why is America any different? You are looking at the president's position. If one person in America is violent, does that mean all are? No. You also might be thinking of what the news is saying. They report on mostly the violent things. That is how they get ratings. But do you hear about people volunteering at a homeless shelter, or raising a benefit concert? I don't hear about it a lot. You just have to remember not all people are the same.

There is a long tradition of violence being used to solve problems in America. This is hardly an American only problem: this is true in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

But America is a very young country, founded on the genocide of the natives and slavery of blacks, who build this country. We have not really learned the limitations of using force to get your way, the way more civilized parts of the world, like Europe and Japan, have discovered.

We also inherited the mantle of Empire, from the British. We have taken it upon ourselves to protect the world's trade routes, since we are one of the primary beneficiaries. We send an oversized share of the worlds resources to our shores, to fund our extravagant lifestyle, and we have to use force to protect that.

We also simply have the means to push other people around, unlike most countries, so we sometimes take advantage of that. We seem to be learning the foolishness of doing that however.

Mostly, we have used force wisely, which is part of the reason the rest of the world has tolerated us as the "World's policeman" but the foolish and disastrous Iraq War has changed all that.

Also, please remember that not all of us are aggressive and violent. I was in the streets protesting the Iraq War, along with millions of my countrymen. We were in the minority then, but we are in the majority now.

I don't believe Americans are aggressive and violent. But I do believe the more you have to lose the harder you fight. And our country is so great, people are clammering to get into it. You don't see any Americans strapping a rubber raft to their a*s and paddling to Brazil. I watch T.V. I see what goes on in other countries. Personally I like going to bed at night and not worrying if soldiers and going to break in and kill my family or take everything I own. We can feel safe, for the most part. We like our iPods, color T.V., computers and all the other stuff. That's why I think our soldiers are FANTASTIC. They are out there fighting and dying so we can keep living the American Dream.

That is a gross missperception and generalization.

We American's voted last November and gave the House and Senate to the Democrats - the party that opposes Pres. Bush's methods. We want peace and we want out of Bush's misdeeds.

I believe you are right with your perception though, but only for one reason. Pres. Bush is the leader of America and people of other nations percieve the citizenry based on who they know through the various news mediums. I do not doubt at all that we do look like war-mongerers because of that madman, but quite largely we would rather just live in peace without bloodshed.

Americans are not aggressive and violent. We are one of the most powerful countires in the world because we take action when it is needed to keep the world from getting worse. Sometimes it's not good to just sit back and let other people do bad things. Being passive when it comes to running a country will get you nowhere.

properly, you're question must be: Are all people aggressive/ violent? and evidently it is in trouble-free terms a generalization people are basically like the British, jap, and Somalians. (properly, at the same time as it is composed of thoughts and emotions.) we are people, hence there'll be grasping adult men and women living the following yet i'm highly particular there is people like that everywhere. And certain lifestyle performs a position in how people behave, yet lifestyle would not assure a particular habit.

Your question is what many people around the world often do when referring to Americans..stereo typing.!..
People around the world are aggressive...I think the mistake is made because The world media is focused on America for obvious reasons..and it being today's only super power.!
The fact is in this world there are hundreds of conflicts and most of them don't involve America but people and media pay little attention because America is not at the center !

I don't generalize all Americans as aggressive. But when a nation acquires power and its leaders are greedy, then the result is war and aggressiveness. They go on searching for reasons to be war with other nation. See Iraq, first it was WMD, then saddam, and now what ?? Still the war continues. See one answerer is saying it is to keep their right to use Ipod, TV etc. They don't see condition of people where US attacked unjustly having to sleep anytime expecting their home to be bombed by US planes and helicopters flying over them. What ever they do, bomb hospitals, schools etc, they will say terrorist were hiding there. These so called peaceful war mongers can enjoy when they create hell over other places.
