As a single mom of a 12 year old son, where we live its extremely hot during the summer. To all you moms out there how do you feel about applying sunscreen and protecting your child in the sun?

Even if he is 12 when we go to the beaches, or swimming pools, it will be ME who will be slathering sunscreen on him because I think that If I do it my self, I will feel more satisfied and that my son will be protected much more.

I dont believe that "oh mommy is putting sunscreen on me" becasue its out jobs. I use 1 tablespoon of sunscreen per arm and 2 per leg and 4 for back and front, so I know he is protected.

what do you do to keep your children safe in the sun and at what age?

Okay I can't help but laugh at this. I can see myself being that way with my daughter when she gets older. She's going to hate me for all of the embarrasment I will bring to her life. Anyway, I TOTALLY agree with you about protecting your kid from the sun. Very serious thing. Your doing the right thing. But I think that it's time he applys his own. He's growing up mom. haha. I know your protecting him from the sun but protect him from the kids that are going to be calling him a "momma's boy."

You must do it, right from baby. At any age, and especially with going in water, the most important thing is that it HAS to be re-applied - most parents who are conscientious put it on the first time, but it has to be reapplied more often if they are in and around water -- and still reapplied if they are staying out long.

If he doesn't like it, tell him that some freak on Yahoo Answers will go out there and kick his skin cancer ridden **** (you can't say A-R-E-S?) to the Sun Tan Lotion isle of your local market and make him by the all natural 60spf waterproof kind with 50% of profits going to help the rainforest. And I'll make him floss his teeth every night.
